Ok I read this, @janweiss did you get the Jul SPL update?
I am (and this thread is about) talking about the Fairphone 6.
The last update for the Fairphone 6 is from July and includes the Android security patch from June.
It’s not that some carriers or countries don’t receive updates for the Fairphone 6. There was no update for the Fairphone 6 since the July update.
Here LINK is a thread that started about the Fairphone 4 (!) not receiving security patches in a timely manner that has since evolved into a thread talking about the 4, 5 and 6. To me it sounds like the security patches for the Fairphone 4 and Fairphone 5 were on average (in the last 3 years) arriving about 3 - 4 months late (which is not acceptable). So I fear that this is not a one-off problem since July for the Fairphone 6 but the usual modus operandi for Fairphone.
Before today’s update, there was an August update with July SPL, see https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/24463713641234-The-Fairphone-Gen-6-Release-Notes However, users on some carriers/networks apparently did not receive it yet.
I see, thank you! So I was wrong, there was an update (August) I did not receive with T-Mobile in Germany.
On top of that:
There was a FP6 update in August with security patch July and now there is a FP6 update in September still with security patch July. Since the Android security patch July there were patches August and September. And later this week there will be a patch October. So even if I had the current update that was released today I’d still be behind 2 - 3 security patch levels ![]()
That is a website mistake (feel free to follow the “July 2025” link on Fairphone’s website), SPL is 5 August, see my reply here:
(5 August is also shown in the system settings after the update.)
I do not have a FP6, this is what I experience for the FP5, and reading through the threads of FP6 I had the feeling it is more or less the same on the FP6. Just checked the last two releases, for example:
QREL.15.122.0, July SPL, Telekom DE, 2 days delay
Software Update: FP6.QREL.15.122.0 - #29 by david92 (mentioning Telekom and not receiving it the first day a few entries before)
Software Update: FP6.QREL.15.122.0 - #18 by RMW
Software Update: FP6.QREL.15.122.0 - #32 by RMW
Software Update: FP6.QREL.15.122.0 - #36 by Watchdog (Congstar being on Telekom, I use it as well)
QREL.15.105.0, June SPL, Telekom DE, 4 days delay
Software Update: Fairphone (Gen. 6) - FP6.QREL.15.105.0 - #44 by RMW Telekom DE
Edit: @lowbob123 4 reports of users with Telekom DE network having the update with SPL July. Maybe something fishy on your device. The customer service from Telekom DE is very friendly and usually quick to reply. Maybe you give it a go.
Thanks @janweiss my impression was the same, the extrem delay on all devices occurs only with VF DE SIM cards since approx half year.
Calling it a delay is very kind.
There isnt an Update for Vodafone users.
Thank you! That gives me a little hope back. I really want to keep this phone ![]()
Just to understand - there are update delays / problems accross some networks and not on others. What about removing the SIM from the phone and not having any network, just internet connection. Do you get the updates fine with a “blank” phone / without carrier? I might try this later.

No because the phone is still “connected” to the network. You need another SIM, it seems it could be an old deactviated one…
For now I will just use my moms SIM once a month to update the phone.
I do hope FP gets it together and releases the updates for all carriers (again, according to FP support they didnt release updates for VF customers so its on FP).
If not I will give in an buy the cheapest iphone i can get (as I for some godforsaken reason need a smartphone for my healthinsurance). I really hate them but I will no longer put ub with the android update bs.

I am going to give it a few more days before I decide whether to return my phone or not. After using it for a day and a half, I am really happy with it, aside from the security update issue.
Something that would really convince me to keep this is finding custom ROMs that allow relocking the bootloader. The fact that there are several that support this for FP5 gives me hope, but it is too early right now. The only one available seems to be eOS and I really don’t like their eco-system.
If I do end up deciding to return it, I will buy a refurbished ShiftPhone 8.1 when it starts shipping, but I fear it might have the same update issue, if VF really doesn’t care about approving updates from smaller phone manufacturers

I’m sure once Lineage is available officially we will see IodeOS soon.
Yeah, I am really looking forward to that, and here’s to hoping that CalyxOS comes back to life soon ![]()
I switched to Telekom in Germany. Since this SIM card became my main card, I no longer receive updates. I briefly activated one on the 1und1 network and the update was there immediately.
Some people using SFR had no updates for months (see other threads). But there are (were?) many agreements between SFR and Vodafone, so it is maybe not surprising.
OK.
Not surprised.
SFR is a dying company for reasons anyway.
I have another question: why doesn’t removing the sim card allow me to install the update?
I tried physically removing my sim card, restarting the phone and searching for updates while connected to WiFi, but there still weren’t any updates.
Do I need to wait a specific time or maybe factory reset the phone?
The screen slow refresh rate bug that seems to have been solved in newer software versions is REALLY getting on my nerves. D:
Which other provider did you try? So far this always worked, however it might not havd been released by the provider either?
In this case I was testing without a sim card.
I previously tried inserting my friend’s old prepaid sim from the time he was working in Greece, but I didn’t mention it here again because it was a stupid test: that friend had a Vodafone Greece sim, so it makes sense that it didn’t work, and I also didn’t do a thorough test, but my question here was about removing the sim completely and connecting via WiFi.
Why does removing the sim card completely not work?
