Fairphone 5 – Sound stops working until restart

Hi everyone,

I have a Fairphone 5 and since few weeks the sound has stopped working properly. When it happens, there’s no sound at all for calls, music, or any other audio.
Restarting the phone temporarily fixes the issue, but it keeps coming back after a while.

I submitted a support ticket to Fairphone on June 26th (over 10 days ago), but I haven’t received any reply yet.

I don’t think it’s a microphone issue, since the problem also happens when using Bluetooth devices.

Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on what might be causing it or how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same (or a similar) issue since the last (June) update. It starts whenever I connect with Bluetooth. Even when I disable Bluetooth, it will still attempt to play over Bluetooth (as indicated by the icon in the volume bar when I press the volume buttons) and as a result no sound will play at all.

Only one specific Bluetooth device will still play audio (when I enable Bluetooth and connect), others won’t.

Hi,

Do your problems resemble this topic?

A new A15 update for the FP5 came out today. It might be worth checking that out before anything else, even if the changelog doesn’t mention Bluetooth.

When the problem occurs, rather than restarting the phone, try just turning Bluetooth off and on again (use the pull-down quick settings pane).

If this is a Bluetooth problem then it might be worth doing a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi reset.
Warning : this will cause your phone to forget all the Bluetooth pairings and Wi-Fi networks (especially their passwords, so have those ready for when you need to reconnect).

To do the reset, go to
Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Thanks for the tips @OldRoutard
I just upgraded to Android 15 and right now things seem okay even after switching between multiple Bluetooth devices. I’ll send an update if the problem reoccurs.

My problem was similar to the topic you mentioned, but the difference was that it also wouldn’t play sound on Bluetooth devices anymore, except for one. Turning Bluetooth on and off was something I had tried but didn’t work. Restarting the phone would fix it temporarily.

Spotify might actually be the culprit.
