Since today my Fairphone 5 (18 months old) does not detect my SIM card (I do not have e-SIM). I have tried another SIM card of another provider, which did not work too. However, my SIM card works perfectly fine in an iPhone.
I already did all troubleshooting points such as turn off/on, clean it, service menu, set back network settings etc.
Before ordering a new part, while the phone is still on warranty, it might be advisable to contact Customer Support, go through the troubleshooting on their page or test the SIM card using the internal testing module.
It was mentioned on FP website that old SIM cards can cause issues. That was the reason I exchanged the card just before buying a phone. Yet, as the phone approaches two years soon, I might put on my check list for future again.
Update: Before I ordered the replacement top module, I did all that except contact support. The internal testing module didn’t recognize the SIM card any more. Plus, like damarbu, I tried another SIM card and it didn’t work either.
Exchanging the top unit worked for me. When changing parts, I had the suspicion that the B2B connector (on the down left corner of the top module under the moveable cover) had come loose, maybe due to my phone falling too many times
It was a bit fiddly to connect, and the first time it didn’t work, but after a second try with pressing the B2B connector a little upward and down gently, my Fairphone’s fully functional again.
P.S. Damarbu, if you still got the problem, I could send you my old top unit for free if you want to try fiddling with the B2B connector.
Yes, you’re right. But I already have had my phone away before for two or three weeks for repairs, and it was quite a hassle with many difficulties and even some data lost (it’s far easier to transfer Android data to another Android phone then restoring it to the old phone after a factory reset). So I tried the replacement in this case.
I’ve sent my Fairphone 5 to customer support and I think they changed the top unit as well as the motherboard (a few days after I wrote the contribution above, my phone died completely). I really tried hard to reach support in live-chat and luckily now it is working again.
