Fairphone 5 Protective Case - needed/Alternatives?

Hi

There was this one good story shared on the forum on biowaves

so I guess you could try that

alternatively, they ship to Poland and I will be in Scotland next month, so if you would like me to act as a middle(wo)man, DM me:)

I see many posts asking about cases. However, all of them waffle about attributes extraneous to their titles, and cover multiple topics per post. I solely want to know what cases are available with covers over the display. (I own one, but it’s crude.)

Dear @rokejulianlockhart We try to keep all the relevant posts in relevant topics.

The topic for FP5 cases is

Now I understand unwillingness to search through more than 3 hundred posts but I do not think having individual posts asking about any specific case is a proper alternative.

So let us meet halfway.

I will try to answer your question to the best of my knowledge and then close this topic.

So here it goes

There is no official flip case on FP5 nor have I heard any rumours about it being considered.

There are some third party cases available. CaseOnline still have them, I believe Anna T. closed her shop.

I finally got one from Polish Amazon but I believe that is this one. Not very happy about buying from Amazon at the moment but it is a different story (not forum relevant)

Just got a new case from Fairphone 5 Lompakkokotelo Magneettisella Sulkijalla - Musta

@rokejulianlockhart please take look.
I’m happy with it.
It cover screen and I can keep some bank cards ….

@oleksii, thanks, but I already own similar: [1]

…and my brother owns that version. Unfortunately, the polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride cover isn’t durable, nor is the glue that connects it to its polyethylene case.

Hi, if you are looking for real leather, perhaps a Biowaves one would be an option?

@Meaghan, I wasn’t (because I’d rather have something made of nylon, Kevlar, or carbon fibre, in order to not rot when exposed to water for significant periods of time). However, that looks like the highest-quality offering I’ve seen thus far, so thanks.

I’m surprised that no seriously protective cases exist for industrial staff, law enforcement, and/or armed forces personnel. All of the available cases are rather weak.

There is a promo offered by Bark on reddit, where you can win a wooden case for your FP (3-6)

Thanks for the link, I participated last week.
Seems that there were 3 winners!

Biowaves cases are sold by Amazon UK… Amazon being problematic for many reasons including being on the boycott list as a supplier to the ā€œIsraeli Defenseā€ Forces, being big tech and labour violations… I didn’t find any other UK seller when I looked but perhaps there are some by now.

I don’t know any, but perhaps you could contact biowaves directly and ask?

Biowaves SmartShell update…

I got one 8 months ago. Really nice to hold, thinner and not as tough compared to what I’m used to. I certainly wouldn’t want to be frequently taking the case on and off. I’ve dropped it on concrete from about 3 foot height several times, and onto porcelain tiles several times. It does scuff but the screen hasn’t cracked and my one isn’t damaged.

When it has landed on the corner it has had more damage, but I don’t notice until I look close. One drop chipped most of the down button off. I can still press the button in but it is recessed so awkward.

The Hang Hug remains in good condition after 8 months, and it’s really useful to attaching some cord to, to make a kind of finger/hand wrap so I don’t drop it as much. It was crazily fiddly to get in place, I ended up sitting the case on a table before positioning the hang hug then pushing the phone in from above and from the side.

I also have a matt screen protector on it which is just as good as when I first added it.

Overall, considering the environmental impact, I’m happy with it and it looks good. If there is ever a budget military grade case I would be tempted to swap, should this case ever crack.

My F3 came with a ā€œbumper" that sat round the edge of the phone…strangely seemed to be adequate protection but f5 doesn’t have this….and the old f3 one is just too small. Where can I get one please?

Hello
To the best of my knowledge such a thing does not exist for FP5.
I purchased something similar on eBay but i can’t recommend it so will not be posting links here.

I ended up purchasing the leather flip case from Biowave (not through Amazon), almost a year ago. It’s been pretty good, the leather has started to peel away from around the edge of the camera but I could probably fix that easily with a bit of superglue.

I’ve dropped the phone a few times from different heights and it seems to protect the phone well, just scuffing the case.

Hi, looking to get a case after my screen finally broke badly enough to need replacing. After reading over this thread I’m leaning towards the Tudia one for maximum protection. However, I like to use a magnetic popsocket / other magnetic accessories.

Has anyone tried to glue something onto the back of that case so far? Since it’s textured I’m worried it wouldn’t adhere well enough.

If it doesn’t work I’d go with the Bark with magnet included or glue one onto the SmartShell

Hello and welcome to the community.
I always glue stuff, here is the picture of my tudia case with a double ring holder

Don’t recall any more issues than with other cases. Yes the popsockets/rings are detachable and sometimes the glue might not be too strong ( once the original glue is done, I use some other double sided tapes).

Wow you’re fast! Thanks, I’ll try the Tudia then
