There is no official or fair transparent case that I am aware of.
This thread (huge) would include some users describing their experience.
My first case was transparent but it got a bit yellowish and I passed it on (you should be able to find my photos somewhere on the forum). From what I recall, the current owner was kind enough to say that he is happy with it.
Also the transparent cases do not seem to be so sturdy, especially for outdoors.
I have recently decided to take a risk and ordered a simple bumper (a protective ring) via ebay, will report once I get it whether it was a good choice
Tudia does seem the best, however I decided to try Biowaves first, with the hang hub I can attach it furniture, or even my jacket pocket so hopefully it wonât hit the concrete. The bumper case suggested looks like an option although I presume it wonât fit over a case.
Absolutely perfect. The grip is great, the material is non-slip and very soft and pleasant to the touch. The phone is really well protected, whether itâs the screen or the camera.
âŠlooked good at first. However unfortunately it isnât really stable in the long run. My wife had two of them. The first one broke after the phone fell onto tiles when it was very new. The phone survived without a scratch, so thatâs great. Because the case was so new she got a new one for free. That one was more lucky and survived longer, however it got cracks over time, too, the hang hubs dissolved over time, too, and so she finally went for the Tudia which looks really trustworthy so far.
Hi All!
I bet the environmentally conscious crowd of Fairphone users include a lot of people who want to keep their phone accessible and visible when cycling? Iâve always used the awesome, beautiful Quad Lock in the past, but they only make cases for the most popular (huge user base) phones. For others, they offer a mount with some glue, which sounds risky to me, but they also say upfront that the glue isnât likely to adhere well to TPU, which is what the Fairphone case is made from.
It seems my options are:
ask quadlock if they can support Fairphone
go back to an old huge, ugly phone handlebar mount.
3d print my own Quadlock compatible case
ask if Fairphone could produce a Quadlock compatible case
Iâve tried 1 - Quadlock confirmed they donât make a Fairphone case, but they will note my request
Iâve tried 3 - I found a 3d print model of a quadlock mount and combined it with a Fairphone 5 case. Issues are that 3d printer PLA is too rigid for a phone case. You can get TPU filament, but itâs a gamble whether itâll work with my printer. And Iâve tried looking for professional production processes but the minimum order levels make it prohibitively expensive for a single case. Also I guess it might be a patent infringement, though Iâd happily buy a case if Quadlock made one?
Option 4, could Fairphone contact Quadlock and offer to do a run of cases, particularly if Fairphone users here would pledge to purchase one? I already have a 3d print model that could work, so wouldnât it just be a case of sending the model to a manufacturer and ordering a minimum order? Quadlock might be willing to share the specification of the mount if someone else is taking the risk of producing the cases?
For option 2, what handlebar mounts to others use?
i dont think ther is that much need of investing so much effort in it, but ofcourse if you like to keep going, i like te project.
i will not recemment that, the phone will just slip out of the case the original Fairphone case is not so well designed. the adhesive will be my lowest concern.
always a good idear,
correcte me if im wrong but i think the locking part wil never be strong enough.
Small changes, i dont think Fairphone wil be interested in that.
i use the GUB pro2, and have the Tudia case.
Very happy about this combination.
Yep, just for anyone jumping in this topic now, I would 100% still recommend the Tudia cases after a combined five months of use. Itâs sturdy, very grippy and looks great. The single downside is that itâs a bit bulky for my taste, but I prefer good protection and some bulk, over the disappointing Fairphone case.
For Tudia, just donât get the light blue version, because it discoloured for me within months. They cordially gave me a new dark green case, and it still looks perfect after 3 months.
I bought mine over a year ago and I have dropped it from all sorts of heights, on all sorts of edges and corners and on all sorts of surfaces (from wood to concrete and tiles) and neither the case nor the phone have been damaged.
The case did get some scratches but that is to be expected.
I can also verify that the light blue one does discolour, but I personally did not care.
So far I quite like the Fairphone 5 case from Fairphone. Iâve not dropped the phone from a great height, nor onto a very hard surface, but itâs survived bumps fine so far
I still wish it had more of a lip creating more of a bumper if the phone lands screen side down on the ground, maybe Fairphone will take that point?
Regarding the 3d print option, I think it could be strong enough - it only needs to cope with the weight of the phone and my occasional taps on the screen, and be rigid enough to cope with bumps in the road.
I took a punt on some TPU filament for my 3d printer, but there are too many parameters to adjust to optimise printing for different filaments and so far theyâve all printed like I knitted my own case! Literally feels like a have a loosely weaved cotton case. The quad lock mount element didnât print right at all.
Iâm still considering the Tudia case as it does look pretty rugged, but I like my Fairphone case. It does sometimes feel like itâs not a perfect snug fit but that usually turns out to be because I didnât clip the back on properly after showing off that I can change the battery!
And I like that the Fairphone logo is visible, I like what the company stands for, that the phone doesnât look cheap (even though relative to a Google Pixel or an iPhone, it is!) and itâs good to start conversations with people who are thinking of changing phones.
Thanks for the suggestion of the Tusita clamp/QuadLock compatible mount. I bought that and it works quite well. A bit bulky when I disconnect the clamp from the QuadLock mount, but the clamp is also quite quick to unscrew so I sometimes just use that.
Itâs a good stop gap until QuadLock and Fairphone get their act together
hello, I allowed myself to move your post here as we had discussed the weaknesses of FP5 case here before. Some even said it is a waste of money, returned it or gave away for free.
I vaguely remember some mentioned the case has been improved following the feedback but I am not sure about that.
I have never used an official case. Sometimes I use FP5 without a case, and you could see the signs of it on the frame , but most of the time it is protected. I also use the original FP screen protector.
Hi, I think the Tudia case tops all the forum rankings for FP5. Please check above for pictures. I find it very good but also bulky and heavy.
For eco friendly solutions there are Bark and Biowaves, I have never used those but again there are users up there commenting and sharing stories and pictures.
Finally there are silicone ones, I am in favour of the transparent one with strengthened edges.
