Exactly the same with LOS22.

basically, yes. Was that track of yours a bicycle ride or a walk? I’m asking, because I tracked a walk on foot and got a very similar graph as you did, with top/average speeds of (in this case) 19,1 km/h and 9,7 km/h, while in reality walking with 6 km/h at most:

That was the last walk I tracked with the FP5 before realizing that its useless to do so because the values are rubbish. Unfortunately I didnt have another phone with me for reference.

I had that problem, too. I fixed it by disabling
“Einstellungen” → select a profile → “Allgemeine Einstellungen” → “Eigene Position animieren” (these are the german names for the settings. This would be roughly the following in english:)
“Settings” → select a profile → “General Settings” → “Animate your own position”

Hi @d19e84

for almost 10 KM.

if i not forget about it, i will make a Tracklog of my next longer walk, an compare the results white yours.
so long as you wasn’t running, wat you didn’t, the grap is way to far off than can be considered as acceptable.

i think that something else as i dit, i wil try this as well. and will share the results if interesting.

greetings

Tom

Oh, pardon me, I obviously missed that.

Thats kind of the point. I seriously doubt that I’ve walked almost 9 km in less than an hour. The “time moving” seemed realistic back then, but the distance is probably far off.

The speedometer in Google Maps:

i noticed this one is wrong as well, only way less noticeable. Google only change the value ones a second.

still sometimes it shows a wrong value.

no average speed but a value each second. most values will be close to reality, just by chance it sometimes take one that deviates a lot.

does everyone see this as well?

video again coming from my Fairphone 5 on FP5.UT2K.B.098.20250109 FPOS

Hi,

Now we have a new software version, i tested the GPS Speedometer again.

1000045262

Unfortunately, nothing has changed.

which was to be expected as this problem was not mentioned in description of the software update.

Dit someone noticed a deferens?

i tried:
Gmaps
OSMand+
Waze

Hi @d19e84

I have not found a way to reproduce the issue you described it looks like it’s something wat only happens on your phone .

This dit work very well for me to stop the sticky marker in OSMand, thank you @d19e84 for the solution, even after i turned “stay on track” back on again.

Back to the Speedometer Jitters:

The conversation with Fairphone support is still ongoing, every now and then I get an email with questions and things to test.

i will keep waiting and hoping that the next update will fix this Issue.

Greetings

Tom

Would you mind sharing a backup of your Osmand~ configuration? (Settings → export to file → tick the checkbox right of “Settings” only) I’d like to test with your config to rule out my configuration as a possible cause.

Hi

Can you try the Beta version of OSMand?

there should be a bypass for the Fairphone 5 issue be present in the beta version, how is be added especially for Fairphone 5 users, if i dit not get it wrong.

this is only a bypass for the issue when using OSMand. waze and all other apps wil still be as bad as beforem

I dit some testing during a bike tour past weekend, running two apps in different settings at the same time.

i see improvement, number jitter much slower, however its not working good enough on my phone to properly use it.

1000045497 (2)

i don’t know how much my settings have influence on the behaviour.

i hade to reduce the amount of Frames in the video to upload it to this form. in reality the difference is beter visible.

top is OSMand bata. not much changed in the setting.

bottom OSMand+ white customized settings.

I’m wondering if other users experience much better results in the bata version.

someone willing to do some testing?

greetings

Tom

Hi everyone,

i think i’m struggling now to keep my patience.

i just reserved a update for Fairphone, how is telling they still think this issue is pressed on other android 14 devices, not only Fairphone 5.

i thinking about what will be the best response to convince them its not, trying not to rush this.
i guess we can now be more than sure its only present on Fairphone 5’s, please tell me if I’m wrong.

  • ask on which other devices they have observed it.
  • filming other phone brands while navigating using multiple apps.

wat do you think is the best answer?

greetings

Tom

In exactly this order: Ask them for an example where this can be observed, too, then find someone with such a phone and then do the video. It’s ridiculous that they still believe this half a year later…

Seems like my last post was deleted/censored without any notice by the administration of this board on behalf of the company they claim to be indepentent of. I’m going to re-post it below this, since I got no explanation whatsoever for the deletion. If they will keep censoring posts critical of their company, I wont continue wasting my time trying to take part in this board. Sorry, @T4om @Martin_Anderseck

Edit: @Martin_Anderseck I edited your quote to make the point where I disagree with your take on the matter, not to misrepresent what you were saying. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear enough.

Besides that, I fully agree. That would be the way forward. If anyone wants to go down that route, feel free to attach my gif which proofs that there is at least one android 14 phone which doesnt show this behaviour, which in turn rules out a general android 14 problem.

I deem the chances of them giving a d*mn at least somewhat higher when their ignorance is on public display. Probably someone with contacts to tech bloggers, magazines (for example the ct in germany) or streamers could try to draw some public attention to this issue. Non-public support tickets will likely continue to be ignored. [They’ve basically confirmed that assumption by censoring this post.] Besides that, I definitely dont have the patience to waste my time with their gaslighting, so I personally will simply just tell everyone I meet to avoid this company if they care about working software and customer support.

No, the “censoring” was only because you quoted me wrong. And it was done by a community moderator, no Fairphone employee. And this time I changed your quote of my post back because I understand what you want to say, but please do this in your own words instead of generating the impression that I might have written that (and maybe changed it afterwards).

And while I’m not happy with how Fairphone acts in this case I’m more unhappy with the support situation in general.

I have deleted your post.
Sorry for not informing you.
But altering a quote is so not done, that I reacted right away.
You can’t let us believe that an other person said things he didn’t.

Thank you for clarifying this. If I would have gotten a notification about that, I would have gladly corrected the quote, because it was never my intention to mislead about the contents of @Martin_Anderseck’s post. Therefore I fat-printed my additions to it to differentiate them from his statement. I deemed that to be a legitimate (and obvious) way to clarify the points where I disagree with his take. (Additionally I probably wouldnt have suspected the post to have been deleted because of being too critical of Fairphone.)
