I have the latest Link to Windows app on my phone, which is fully updated on Android 13, and have the latest Phone Link program on my computer, however the option to “Show mobile device in Explorer” does not show up in Windows settings. (see attached screenshot).
Has anyone been able to get this to work, and if so, did you have to do anything extra?
I feel your pain bud. I’m having similar problems as well and as stated on this thread below. I’m on the current version as well and having somewhat similar issues with the phone link app interfering with Bluetooth transfer. I have my phone linked and all that to this app. But yet they seem to conclude that it’s my PC having an outdated driver. Even if it says its up to date. And Microsoft doesn’t update any documentation on the issues stated. If i have to guess. You just have to try going to device manager and uninstall and reinstall the driver. I’ve tried that in my case with no luck. I also guess that Microsoft doesn’t seem to care about the end user experience. Older operating systems seem to be way better than windows 11. Most people are unlikely to downgrade their hardware to fix issues like this. This is my exexperience with windows 11 and my opinion on this matter.
Bluetooth problems transferring photos
That’s a shame. But you may be on to something - the Bluetooth dongle I use is a good 5 or more years old, so may not be fully compatible. I’ll have a look at that.
And I discovered that the Fairphone file explorer works properly on my Surface Pro 7 tablet, which got upgraded to 24h2 a couple days later, so it must be related to my desktop computer.
Quick Question. Mine is the current 5.4 standard as of this post. 6.0 isn’t out yet. And mine is a desktop purchased only a year ago when my old PC kicked the e-waste bucket so to speak. My question is simply an related Walmart purchase of this item. Does your windows 11 happen to run an old CPU dating back to the 90’s? I thought mine was a Intel Celeron. But its apparently a later gen Pentium one. For reference here is my specs on my windows 11 for reference.

PS upgraded to 6E Wifi and latest Bluetooth standards as well from defaults. Here is two screenshots from device manager.
Hope this information helps in the end this stuff is current at the time of writing. There is no WiFi 7 upgrades yet for PCs. Just FYI.
@Phragmites , thanks for pointing out this feature.
I have just tried it - it works for me: FP4 + Acer Spin 5 laptop.
After setting up the connection, the phone folders have synced.
Copying files between the devices first gave an error. But after rebooting both devices, things seem to work well.
That surprised me. Using device manager myself only helps a little if the driver is current. Simply uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling the driver only works for some people. I can never seem to get these workarounds to work in my case. Im glad this worked for you. The only thing that seemed to work for my WiFi adapter is going directly to their website and manually installing the driver. If issues happen i simply go to control panel and uninstall then reinstall the driver that has already been downloaded beforehand. That isn’t the same case for my Bluetooth adapter. It never came with drivers. Using windows update manually added it to the PC. So i don’t even know if that is the cause of my problem there. Who knows; i surely can’t figure it out myself. Being a windows user since windows 95 in the 90’s. Even knowing a few tricks throughout the years didn’t really help here in my case. I’m just stuck.
@Digimon , if you talk about my post, for me everything worked from scratch. I didn’t need to play with drivers. My post was intended as a reply to the topic-starting post.
Apologies for any misunderstanding.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. This isn’t the first time that happened. A moderator in another thread misunderstood what i was saying anyway. People just don’t understand people who love to type on a actual keyboard these days. This really explains how society has changed to short and sweet posts today compared to having to write essays that can add up to 100 pages of text of the past. Different times Indeed. I honestly loved getting stories from others in the mail. Nowadays its bills and not much else. I appreciate the feedback. I honestly thought otherwise. Mistakes do happen from time to time.
Thats great. I’m pleased it works for you! As I’ve mentioned, I only have it working on one of my two devices, so it’s not the phone for sure. It’s a good feature for sure.
