Does the Fairphone 5 have "Accidental touch avoidance" on the edges? If yes, can it be disabled?

Hi,

It has only been a couple of weeks of using my Fairphone 5 and I noticed something when I flashed Ubuntu Touch. It seems like I can’t do a quick swipe or flick from the edges. From what I observed, for the swipe gesture to be detected, it has to be either long enough or done slowly. This is not the case on my Fairphone 4. I can easily do a quick flick on either left or right edge. This is very useful in Ubuntu Touch since those edges are used for navigating the system.

I didn’t notice this when it was still in Android but I guess it’s because I don’t really use it the same way as Ubuntu Touch. Can anyone try on Android with the back gesture?

BTW, I have an Fxtec Pro-1 X with curved edges and it has a similar issue. Someone suggests flashing a custom display firmware but didn’t try yet because I’m afraid to  but I wonder if the Fairphone 5 have the same thing.

I wanted to show it in a video but videos are not allowed here.

I uploaded an unlisted Youtube video to show what I meant

FP5 on stock FPOS, but using 3rd “Fluid Navigation Gesture” with split edge to multiple zones and swiping work normal on my upper/midle/lower zones, also on most bottom edge part i have set activating of (excelent  Quick Cursor and on most top part keep stock “show/drag side menu” for apps support it (ex. NextCloud or Obsidian)

I linked a video to show how the quick flick is done. Did you try that?
Although, I’m not sure if Android would even detect a swipe that short

That gesture seems identical to the default android swipe from the edge to go back gesture.
And yeah, it can be kinda fussy sometimes. Though, I only noticed that on an app by app case.
Sadly I don’t have more to add. It should work as the video shows it. Worst case, not first try. But it should let you spam swipe.

Yeah it is similar. It can be a quick flick in Ubuntu Touch though which is what I mostly do to quickly switch between apps. In my observation, it needs to be slowly done or swipe further than a quick flick I usually do. It’s just a bummer to me and hoping there’s a way to remove it. Makes me hate slimmer bezels more  Even the slimmer bottom bezel compared to the FP4 strains my thumb more for reaching it
