End of this month I will extend my mobile contract and be able to choose a new phone. I think it’s gonna be a FP6. It will be delivered with standard OS and I’m planning to install e/os. On the install instructions I read this: " Warning: Make sure that you can send and receive SMS and place and receive calls (also via WiFi and LTE, if available), otherwise it will not work on /e/OS as well. Additionally, some devices require that VoLTE/VoWiFi be utilized once on stock to provision IMS."
Is it possible to check without a Google-account? Do you need a Google-account before installing e/os anyway?
You don’t need one. Android doesn’t need you to have an account to use the phone Basic features.
Tnx, coming from Apple
Not urgent, but perhaps helpful to know early: https://addressbook.fairphone.community
You will find volunteer Fairphone Angels as well as just loose local networks of Fairphoners there. Sometimes it can be helpful to link up to sort out issues in an uncomplicated manner.
Did you consider iodéOS?
I know both and I prefer iodéOS.
If you are patient, you can buy a pre installed FP6.
And pay €100,- more? I was planning to flash it myself. May be I will try them both, e/os and iodéOS.
If you dare flashing a new phone, that’s the best way to find your favourite.
I did the same a while ago.
Have fun!
If you succeed
When in fastboot mode, run the command fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability before attempting to relock the bootloader.
Don’t relock the bootloader if the result of the command is 0!
Because you will brick your phone and then the phone needs to be repaired by Fairphone.
Please report here if you get 0 as a result.
Maybe I even gonna try Ubuntu and Sailfish, if I have time left, that is.
