Disabling Google applications in Fairphone 5

Hello. I’m wondering about some stuff regarding the Fairphone 5, without the phone being rooted. I’ve noticed that these questions are based apparently on the model and Android version of the phone, so that’s why I’m asking here and not just going based off of other posts in this forum. It would help me a lot if you answered these questions, as I haven’t seen someone else post anything similar, keep in mind I’m talking about not rooting the phone, base system settings basically, I can deal with any a bit more advanced methods, like getting into developer options for some stuff, as long as what you’re suggesting isn’t likely to break my phone.

  • This will define what the following questions are about:Does Fairphone 5 get shipped with Android 14 or 13?
If it gets shipped with Android 14, I want to know just about that version. If it gets shipped with Android 13 I want to know about both versions.
  1. What Google applications are OK to uninstall(From what I know it doesn’t uninstall them completely in some cases, like maybe the Google application, but still.), disable and/or delete all user data from(Which I think is something you can do in the Settings?)? Not including the Settings or emergency service applications(Not even sure if you can disable the Settings application.), any other ones I’m probably OK with.
  2. What would whatever I can do to the Google Play Store(I don’t think I can uninstall it, so deleting all user data and disabling it, if either or both of those are possible.) cause in terms of important issues? I’ve noticed maybe you can’t get updates from Fairphone then? Not sure.
  3. Does disabling the Google keyboard mess with a password unlocc? So if you’ve set a password locc on your phone, does it require you to use the Google keyboard?
That’s it, reminder to note that I’m talking specifically about the Fairphone 5 and Android version 13 and 14 or just 14, depending on which one it comes shipped with. Thanks for any help with this, you can take your time with answering, not in a hurry!!!

You seem like you wanna modify your Android a lot. So I’m wondering, did you consider installing another Android OS (like iodeOS)? Especially if you want to stop Google from calling home, this might be good advice. No root needed.

Its about the FP4, however I guess helps

  1. we dont know and it might depend on where you buy, altbough I dont understand why this would be important.

  2. you dont need to add any Google Account and you can disable the Play Store. This has nothing to do with OS updates from FP.

  3. I use PIN and not Password, thus can use whatever keyboard I want.

Not into that, but thanks for the suggestion!!!

Thank you so much. In terms of the last question, so, is it affected? Yeah, I can alternatively use a PIN, but my question weren’t about that!!! I’m wondering if the Google keyboard is required for a password, it’s OK if you don’t know and don’t want to find out, hahaha.(Seems like the best choice might be not disabling GBoard if you’re going to use it for a password.)

From my understanding you can install alternative apps like a new keyboards and a new browser and a new launcher like nova launcher, then deactivate the old app. For the keyboard you can just change the default keyboard in the options. Not sure there’s a need to deactivate the app then.
You can’t uninstall certain apps like the keyboard but you can deactivate it (they do this so that you can’t break your phone). If you can uninstall the app, then it’s probably safe to uninstall (unless you rooted your phone).

Personally I just changed the default search engine and deactivated chrome and replaced it with brave.
