🇩🇪 Tox als skype alternative benutzen

Nachdem ich Skype nicht benutzen möchte bin ich auf tox gestossen und habe versucht es downzuloaden, nur muss man nachdem man das Paket geladen hat Änderungen vornehmen, die ich so gar nicht verstehe, siehe: https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Tox/
Hat jemand von Euch Erfahrung mit dieser Sofware?

Möchtest Du Tox denn unter Ubuntu oder unter Android verwenden? Ich schätze mal unter Android, die Anleitung bezieht sich auf die Linux-Distribution Ubuntu.

Unter Android (bzw. Fairphone OS) kannst Du einen entsprechenden Android Tox-Client herunterladen, z.B. Antox (zu finden im PlayStore). Alternativ kannst Du die apk auch direkt von der Antox-Website beziehen:

Diesen Tox-Client kannst Du eigentlich ohne weitere Änderungen installieren.

Du solltest aber beachten, dass Du über einen Tox-Client auch nur mit anderen Tox-Usern kommunizieren kannst. Eine Kommunikation von Tox auf Skype (z.B. mit Freunden, die nur einen Skype-Account haben) ist nicht möglich.

Thanks for your tip @Roboe, I think @Maria1 wants to use a Tox client on her Fairphone as an alternative to Skype and I recommended Antox.

Here is my bilingual reply / Hier ist meine eine zweisprachige Antwort:
Ich kann https://appear.in als Alternative empfehlen:

  • Prinzipiell ist keine Installation nötig. Appear.in läuft (video und audio) im Firefox browser auf meinem FP2 mit OpenOS 16.07. Allerdings brauchst Du die appear.in app (leider nur auf Google Play) um Benachrichtigungen über Anrufe zu erhalten.
  • Europäisches Produkt (Telenor), also vermutlich keine USA Schnüffler mit drin.
  • Viel viel besseres Screen Sharing (Desktop mit Plugin). Im Vergleich mit Skype kann man den Desktop erkennen!

I can recommend https://appear.in as an alternative to Skype:

  • No installation is required. I have Appear.in running (both video and audio) with Firefox on my FP2 with OpenOS 16.07. You will need the appear.in app (currently only on GooglePlay) if you want to receive notifications about incoming calls (people joining your room).
  • appear.in is a European product (Telenor), so probably more secure and without any USA sniffing built-in.
  • much much better screen sharing (compared to Skype) from the desktop (with plugin). You can actually read the text on the Desktop.

Yesterday I have testet antox. It is similar to other messengers but needs some work. I would like to use it in the future because I love the concept - if some simple annoyances could be sorted out.

  • the keyboard layout doesn’t show the return key for a new line. Instead it shows emojis only
  • the thumbnails of pictures and other media are regenerated / reloaded every time I open the chat
  • most annoying In my case: very high battery drain

I deleted it for now but keep an eye on it for sure.
