Data file transfer over usb not working after using usb3 cable

I use a USB 2 cable to transfer music file to the phone. After enabling file transfer on the phone, no problems there.

Because I was interested in what the connection* would say when using a USB 3.0 cable.
So after connecting using usb3.0 cable, no option to enable file transfer came up. unplug and re-plug did not help.

Then I use the USB 2.0 cable again, and the enable file transfer also didn’t come up.
In the system settings under USB, the use USB for stayed gray out. That didn’t happen before using a usb3.0 cable.

Connection* usb-devices information using USB 2.0 cable befor using USB 3.0 cable. Now no information is given using USB 2.0 or the USB 3.0 cable.

Troubleshooting step taken.
Testing cable using other device and restarting devices.

  • The used USE 2.0 cable is not faulty, its still works on other devices (to transfer data)
  • The used USB 3.0 cable is not faulty, its still works on other devices (to transfer data)
  • Restarting the phone did not help.
  • Restarting the computer did not help.

What should I do now?
Its sounds to me like a hardware fault of some sort, I hope not..
I don’t need file transfer at the moment, but in the feature I might.
The phone still charges, but don’t know if something inside tripped and if that could have feature problem.
Best case its a software bug that is fixable, second best case the usb-c module needs replacement.

For now I strongly advise to not plug a usb3.0 applicable cable and port into the Fairphone 6.

Spontaneous idea:

When you connect the phone via a USB-cable to another device, there are actually two sets of options available to you:

  1. Which device is controlling the connection (upper section).
  2. What kind of connection to establish (lower section).

Now just my shot in the dark: Maybe you changed something (perhaps unnoticed) on point 1?

The USB controlled by, default is set to ‘This device’
choosing the option, ‘Connected device’ does not work. Message (couldn’t switch). (USB 2.0 cable)
I have before every using USB 3.0 cable, attempted to do this, resulting in the same outcome.
(have tried it, again just now)

edit*
addition note, cable is type-A to type-C.

I have the following hypothesis.
A fully charged phone could block commutation so it won´t charge when not necessary.
When the battery get below 80% it would unlock it self again.
(long shot)

Gone post update when I’m able to test. (phone battery gets below 75%)
note: when plugging in, it does give charging indication.

I made a support ticket, in case it and up being a hardware fault.

addition note: under Trust → Privacy → Restrict USB, is set to Allow USB connections when unlocked.
Changes it to allways allow, does not fix it.
Changes it to Deny, does not fix it. (as asspected)

Restarting device when set to allways allow.
… wait. hold up..
its working ?
Good news!

Fix
Search in setting for Restrict USB
set it to always allow.
Reboot device.

Changing back to allow when unlocked and reboot, give same problem again.
