Chipmunk sound on FP4 in Calls/Videocalls through Apps after Update to 4.3 + FDroid empty

Hi everyone,

after my FP4 updated to e/OS 4.3 I face two issues:

  • Appstore FDroid remains empty (Edit: solved itself after a package-update)
  • Sound during Calls/Videochats through Apps are like a Chipmunk on speed
    • Apps in which I discovered the issue:
      • Signal
      • Deltachat
    • VoiceRecording is not affected, as well VoiceMessaging

What I tried so far:

  • Restarting the phone
  • Emptying the cache of apps

I shy away from reinstalling the apps. So for now this is just an information and I am curious if other people have the same issues.

No mine is not empty.

Concur with Signal App and Chipmunk Voices. I’ll add that the chipmunk voices are what is heard on the Fairphone end of the call, not by the person you’re calling, they hear you normally, as long as they aren’t on a Fairphone. And using Bluetooth headset doesn’t change anything. When we call out using Signal, all we hear is Chipmunk voices.

EDIT - By the way - after backing up… remove and replace Signal App doesn’t change anything.

This issue is a bummer because I was literally about to order the FP6…

I was wondering, if this is an issue related to the FP4 only. Guess we will found out tomorrow, when I can reach someone on the customer support line.

Thanks for confirming, that reinstall is not solving the issue.

On the FP4 .. it was prviously on Android15, so maybe the initial thing on Android16 (FP6) does not have the issue.

You better get in contact with Murena as this happened after an OS update.

And there is no indication at all that this is occuring on the FP6 or if it is it even proves its OS related and not Fairphone related.

Good to hear. After I read your post, I entered FDroid again and suddenly after pocking around, it updated the packages. And then everything was there as well. So, it solved itself.
Before that I did the same thing several times (without any possibility to see an app or the ability to search for it). I am happy, it solved itself. Thx.

And I’ll add, the Murena website, no help, they route you to where you purchased the Fairphone, which is https://support.fairphone.com/

No, the sound issues are still there … and I followed yvmuell’s advice to tell it to Murena … I gave feedback to the Update on https://community.e.foundation/
There is a poll about the issues with the update to 4.3 … roughly 70% didnt face a problem. Guess its depending on the vendor and model.

If I will learn how it can be fixed, I’ll leave a post here.

In the /e/OS forum there’s always a feedback topic for every new version.
This issue has been described there since days ago and is an OS issue on the Fairphone 4. It was discovered in testing before the release, but it seems a fix for it didn’t make it into the 4.3 release, unfortunately.

So far, the fix is now announced to be in /e/OS 4.4.
Affected Fairphone 4 users are not happy, naturally.

I can only encourage /e/OS users to consult the /e/OS forum prior to updating their OS to a new version to check out whether there’s any trouble already visible with an update for their device.
That’s an important and helpful function of such feedback topics.

Disappointing, I will no longer just simply update, as soon as I see the notification on my phone.

Having the same issue on my fairphone 4.

So the fix is to wait for a new update coming in 1, 2, or 6 months ?

I will revert back to stock os in that case this is not sustainable.

Murena will do a hotfix release before /e/OS 4.4 …

(FP6 had a different issue to fix.)
