I am trying to create a secondary user on my phone with the possibility of installing additional or the same packages for the new user as well, but I am facing some issues: They either can’t be installed, or do not appear instantly after installed. So in the first case I am using Total Commander for both profiles, but the secondary profile did not display the application after installed using a secondary Google account, just after switching back and forth. The other and more concering problem is, that I am trying to install my password manager to both profiles, but even after a fresh profile creation the application just fails to be installed. Further issue is, that when I install F-Droid to the secondary user as well, F-Droid doesn’t show itself in the secondary users menu, but it’s there. Same goes for any application installed for the secondary profile through F-Droid.
Any ideas what am I doing wrong?
To reproduce: create a new profile, try installing any open source app, like KeepassDX. It will fail. Install F-Droid from APK from the official site, it will install, but won’t show up among the icons. Install any other app using F-Droid afterwards, same result.
I tried to install Fdroid in a separate user profile but when trying to launch the apk, I get “The application was not installed because package does not seem valid” (translated from french). I tried to re-download Fdroid apk from the official website several times but always get this message. Which e/OS version are you on? v3.0.4?
Hmm. Does that also copy the settings and all the other options too, or just “duplicates” the application?
P.S.: It seems it’s an open source application. Pity it has been last updated in 2023. Not really a long-term solution I am afraid.
Ok, got fdroid installed in both profiles. Indeed, it did not show up in the app list but this seems to be a Bliss launcher issue. I installed lawnchair and could see fdroid as well as apps installed from fdroid. Since I hate the look of Bliss launcher, that is not a problem for me. I was already using Lawnchair in the main profile. Try to change the launcher and see if that works.
I am looking for a proper solution independent of any third party. This is an OS level annoyance, which should be working. Additional applications should extend functionality, not replace it. Will still look at it at some point.
Not really happy adding a system wide function to replace the current as long term solution yet. (Trust issues and all) I understand, that it is similar to Window Managers in Linux/Unix systems; I am waiting or the latest update, let’s see of this gets resolved with it, if not, plan B can be still that.
