Can't hide/remove gesture navigation bar or hide keyboard button

Hi there.

I’ve just got my new FP6, and can’t find any way to hide or remove the gesture navigation bar, or the hide keyboard button.

The only solutions I can find involve rooting the phone, which I’d rather avoid, as my banking app won’t run on a rooted device.

Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks!

Welcome to the Fairphone community.

Could you possibly show a picture, what you mean? Because gesture navigation doesn’t have a bar, the three button navigation has. And what’S the hide kesboard button?

What OS is running on your Fairphone btw, Fairphone OS or e/OS?

The gesture navigation bar can be seen at the very bottom centre of the picture, the hide keyboard button in the bottom left corner (from an Android OS Fairphone :six:):

On my /e/OS Fairphone :three:, there is no gesture navigation bar (it was there temporarily for a few versions before, but disappeared again after a recent update).

So we are just talking about the keyboard?

No. I should have left this other screenshot in my post …

OK, so there is nothing.

It is the white (or dark grey for bright backgrounds) line at the bottom.

As you say, this is a line, no bar and no hide keyboard button.

You are deliberately missing the user’s point.

These are the offending elements, the gesture bar is present everywhere, and the hide keyboard button, obviously only when the keyboard is up. Changing keyboards also has no effect on the hide button.

This is on Android 15.

That’s why I asked. I couldn’t imaging that someone want’s to hide this tiny line.

I actually do, because its constantly on screen, to the point that it’s starting to burn in on the FP5.

The issue for me is that it takes up that space, and together with the hide keyboard button, it spaces the keyboard up almost a full centimeter, which is making it really frustrating to use and adjust to.

I’m afraid you have to live with it, if you are using Fairphone OS. As far as I could find this is controlled by Google, not by the launcher.
But the ‘navigation bar’ without a keyboard doesn’t take up the same space, it’s just a narrow line.
