Hey, I recently bought a fairphone 5 after 5y+ on a a70, and I was used to being able to manage devices on my hotspot but can’t seem to find where this option is on my fairphone.
I can turn it on without any issue and the connected devices are getting access to internet but I can only see how many of them are connected, without being able to manage them.
Is it something that I should be allowed to do or am I just dreaming ? (it does seem to be a common option though)
Also, idk if this is related but I was so thrilled to be able to overlook much more app’s control on my device that I started to degooglise my phone by uninstalling every app containing google in its name (google play services too) since I do not like the way they necessit unrelated permissions to work, I might have done something wrong that causes me to no longer have access to this option ?
In my experience that is normal. What nature of “management” were you envisaging?
You might be confusing Hotspot with Bluetooth where it is indeed possible to configure device-specific properties.
As a rule I would advise against uninstalling or disabling system software components without finding out what they do (what they’re there for) and how they work, and you should certainly keep a detailed record of everything you do (dates, components, details, why, results).
I my precedent phones, I was always able to choose how much devices could connect at the same time, see who they are (ip, model, name), and ban them if wanted. But indeed, I might have been thinking about Bluetooth Hotspot, what’s the difference between the two ?
I just checked the bluetooh tethering but this is not what I was thinking about, the wifi hotspot is the only one who let me put a password, and besides managing a device individually throughout bluetooth there are not the options I am looking for.
Concerning uninstalling some google softwares, I just disabled them and uninstalled all updates, my phone doesn’t bug or anything so I assume there is no issue at the moment except annoying notifications telling me that certain apps won’t work without google play services (even though they do), and most notifications not being emmitted.
but I’m seriously considering just installing CalyxOS so that I can have an mostly ungoogled device without having to sacrifice some app fonctionnalities, I am just waiting for them to find a way around the android rollback protection update
