Since the update to Android 14, my FP5 does not detect my German keyboard (qwertz) nor can I change the keyboard layout as there is nothing to choose in the settings. It doesn’t matter if I use a keyboard via BT or USB or docking station.
Any ideas or suggestions?

It really seems notifcations are gone informing about having a physical keyboard connected.
Eitherway I circumvent the issue by enabling the soft-keyboard option as well in the settings. This way I still can change the layout.

Do you mean that the layout from the on-screen KB is used for the physical one?
In my case that doesn’t work. I still have the qwerty layout for the physical KB.
PS: I’m surprised no one else has this problem. You can find almost nothing about it or my searches are too bad 
yes that’s exactly what I mean and it works very well for me (FP4/eOS/StdAndroidOnScreenKeyboard).
For instance I only have a German keyboard that I want to use with an International/English layout, so I set the on-screen keyboard to ‘English’. Then I have all my keys where I expect them on my physical keyboard
And your system is based on android 14, right?
Yeah, Android 14 and I did not install anything special in regard to keyboards or did any other OS altering optimizations.

brandnew Fairphone 5 with Android 14 and BT-Keyboard with german layout.
Settings in Android have no effect - layout is still US.
I tried the same on my old phone (Android 13 based Lineage OS) - there it works as expected.
This actually was a general issue with Android 12 and German keyboards but has been fixed with Android 14.
I’ve even set the Gboard language to English and German, but once I connect my German BT keyboard, all keys are used correctly (even if Gboard is still set to English).
I know, this won’t help much, but at least I can confirm, that this is no longer a general issue as it used to be.
I’m actually typing this on my FP5 with a German BT keyboard - and all the äs and ös and üs work as they should.
EDIT: Corrected “Android 13” in first sentence to “12”.
I read somewhere that Google removed the ability to change the layout for the external keyboard for the user experience, so the same layout is used everywhere.
And it looks like you are forced to use the gboard so you can customize the layout for the external keyboard. At least this works.
It certainly doesn’t work e.g. with the Fossify keyboard. Maybe they need to adapt something?
Edit: it’s sufficient to install gboard, change the layout to german, deactivate the gboard and e.g. in my case, change to fossify keyboard again.
I’ve got Android 13 on my old phone - there the german keyboard works very well with german layout. On my new Fairphone5 with Andoid 14 the layout is wrong.
Also my gboard is set to german but hardware keyboard is still using US-Layout.
You’re correct in that the German BT keyboard layout is working well on Android 13. I mistook that for problems with Android 12 and have now corrected that in my posting.
But anyway: I don’t have any problems with my German BT keyboard on FP5 with Android 14.
