Hi. I can’t manage to transfer the WhatsApp chat history from my old iPhone 8 to my new Fairphone 6. Using the cable, I transferred all the apps, but the WhatsApp chat history doesn’t come along. Does anyone have an idea what I’m doing wrong?
Facebook make WhatsApp rather difficult to use sometimes I find. Does the iPhone WhatsApp have a backup to Google drive setting?
No. An iCloud back up
WA chats can be transferred from within the app. Not sure whether it makes a difference that the source is an iPhone (I seem to remember some threads here in the forum), but you could try like this
EDIT
Sorry, it isn’t as simple as that – see WhatsApp FAQ How to move chats from an iPhone to an Android device
Searching a bit in the forum and on the web showed various issues and possible solutions but this method involving QR code seems to be relatively recent. IIUC you’d have to do a factory reset though. And I think the mention of SmartSwitch is a leftover from an earlier version …
Good luck!
Hello!
I really tried searching but was coming up with blanks for help on migrating my whatsapp chats over from my Iphone 6s to the murena e/OS Fairphone 6 [bought from FP site]. The WhatsApp “transfer to Android” gets stuck religiously at the point where I have to scan a QR code on the Iphone6s, I scan it and it just returns back to whatever whatsapp page was on the iphone6s before. I have a usb C to lightning wire that doesnt really seem to do anything different. I’ve also tried downloading an app called “droidkit” [and paid to unlock their “Data Manager” section to see if that could help but it can’t (yet) detect my iphone and the app religiously crashes (I have reached out to their customer support separately) .
I’ve also tried exporting the odd individual chat to some google drive on my iphone but I dont think I can import individual chats into the fairphone how I’d like to. Really would appreciate any tips! From anyone with any ideas! I can make usee my partners old Samsung as a go between if that could be a way forwards?
my best,
Frustrated x
I managed it and hope this helps someone else! It was 100℅ perfect but I used Droidkit by imobie mentioned above, and they have a specific WhatsApp transfer thing, i paid £22 to unlock. Then I plugged in both phones and let the software do its thing. At one part you need to take a picture of a 64 key encryption code which I used my partners phone to photograph. It gets typed into the new phone so using the old phone to take a picture would also work (also make sure the picture is in focus some characters looked similar to each other). I also had some small hiccups along the way and the customer services were so helpful. In some moments of frustration (the app crashing as mentioned above) I ended up buying the unlock code twice and they refunded me on the second.
What is abit less smooth is in group chats the author of a comment can be blank. I also had a heap of unopened whatsapps that became opened in the transfer. I had also starred messages but they became unstarred (I flagged this to imobie and they might fix in the future) and i thankfully screen recorded a video of my starred messages). Media came over too and it saved into my fairphone gallery for me which was nice. My WhatsApp contacts are in WhatsApp too, helpful since my phone contacts is essentially empty haha.
Hope this helps someone along the way ![]()
