Camera App shows black screen

Hi, thank you in advance for reading my post!
I’ve tried contacting the fairphone support, it has been two weeks and they haven’t gotten back to me, so I thougth I’d ask if anybody on here has any idea on what could be the issue and maybe even knows how to fix this.

The Camera App on my FP5 stoped working. When I open it, it just shows a black screen. The three navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen are still there and working, so at least I can close the damn thing. Operating system is Android, everything is updated. The last thing I did before it stoped working, was trying to use the front camera - i touched the symbol and that was the last thing I did with that app. All three camera lenses themselves seem to be fine, I can take pictures with WhatsApp, Signal and an alternative Camera App (Open Camera). I’ve tried forcing the app to stop, cleared the app storage and restarted the phone countless times. If I use the camera test in the Fairphone App, it also works perfectly fine.

If anybody has any idea on how to solve this, I’d be more than grateful. I’m also open to altervative solutions - right now I am using Open Camera, the photos are good enough for me, but the video qualitiy is barely watchable. So if you know any app that works relatively well on a Fairphone 5, I’d also give it a try.

I hope I was able to explain my problem, English is not my first language. Sorry for any odd wording.
Thank you so much!

I do have to correct myself, the main camera seems to not be working. Open Camera shows me 3 Cameras, but both “camera 1” and “camera 2” end up using the ultra wide lense.
In the fairphone app, I can only select the camera or the front camera for testing - there is no option to select the main camera. I had never used that testing function when all three cameras were working - so should there be three options?

You can switch within the main camera to wideangel, so no you would not see 3 options as you do in OpenCamera.

You could open the phone and see if the module is properly connected.

In Fairphone App i too see only Front and Back (this open Main camera, NOT Wide)

In OpenCamera is on main UI:

  1. +CameraIcon witch switch:
  • 0: Back
  • 2: Back (UltraWide)
(both option work, switching between back main and wide)
  1. TwoArrowsIcon: this switch to front camera

I’ve opened up the phone, unplugged everything and put it back together - sadly it didn’t help.
In the fairphone app I do not have an option to switch camera. The app just opens the wideangle, and there is no option to switch (except for to the front camera if I leave the test).
It all seems very strange.

Through the My FP app you can open the full test menu (under the more button) and there you can select all 3 cameras seperatly for testing.

Edit the test in the App itself should open the main camera not wide angle, there is normally no option to test wideangle as far as I can see unless you go into the full test menu

In Open Camera I can choose between Main Camera 1 and Main Camera 2, but it seems they are both opening the wideangle, not the actual main camera, and I can select the front camera via arrows. It just looks as if my phone had forgotten that there should be 3 cams.

Oh thank you so much, I hadn’t seen that one.
When I look under Camera OTP I get:
camOTPB: NOK
camOTB2: OK
camOTPF: OK

Something is off. When I use that menu and ask for the front camera, it opens the back camera (the super wide one again), “main camera” opens the front camera, and “super wide” also opens the super wide.

Btw: in full test menu some items under “Camera OTP” is also three Front/Main/SuperWide Cameras items

I’ve seen them now!

results:
Front Camera: opens super wide
Main Camera: opens front camera
Super Wide Camera: opens super wide camera
Super Macro (why is this even in this list, there is no super macro lense?): “open camera fail!”

I have no idea what to make of this…
