Hello,
Something odd is going on with my calls. When I try to place a call the phone gets kicked off the mobile network. This only happens when roaming, not in my home country. Incoming calls go directly to voicemail. Data and text messages all work fine.
SIM card works fine with calls in another phone (OnePlus and iPhone).
I’ve tried the troubleshooting guide, but I get stuck at the point where I have to perform a service test (dialling *# and 66 etc.) since it seems that is for FP4 and FP5? And I have a 6.
The phone subscription provider has asked me to try with and without WiFi-calling, neither work. They also asked me to reset the network settings to no avail. Phone has been restarted multiple times, and is running the latest Android 16 update available.
Thanks. I just tried that now, and it didn’t work. Does that setting really affect calls?
Addendum: Another SIM card from another provider works fine, no settings needed tweaking. So it seems like it’s an issue with the combination of the original SIM card/provider and this phone
Oh wow, I have been dealing with exactly this problem from this week. Just like you describe, but in my case with an eSIM. I do have an eSIM in roaming mode and a physical SIM from the country in which I am in. My eSIM in roaming mode within the EU cannot place calls, but data and messages work. Whenever I try to place a call, the dialing screen shows up, but the phone does not seem to be able to make a connection. After 10-15 seconds, I guess some timeout, the phone automatically hangs up and then I loose coverage on that eSIM. The only way to reset it is by turning the airplane mode on and off or the phone off and on. After doing that, the coverage and data comes back. The physical SIM (local, i.e. not in roaming mode) does not give any problems, I can call and receive calls.
I also had the same troubleshooting process as you: VoLTE off, 4G calling off, WiFi calling off. I even tried turning the data off, turning the physical SIM card off. Nothing worked.
I was chatting with the phone provider and they asked me to manually select other network providers, but that didn’t work. Also, APN. configuration matches the indicated by the eSIM provider.
I do not remember exactly when this started happening. However, I never encountered this problem before the Android 16 update and this is the first time I was trying to make phone calls in roaming with Android 16. So maybe related?
I had been trying all the different combinations in the settings with WiFi calling etc etc, but had skipped allowing 2G calling. It is a new function of Android 16, so it’s normal that this happens after the update. I think I did turn it off after the update, since it mentions more security, but did not make a call until weeks after the update, so I had forgotten it existed.
I had this exact problem mid of last year when i was in Germany. Most of the time the first call after restarting device did go through, but this was a real pain.
Did not experience the problem since. Not sure if its fixed for me or just had luck.
After a quick visit to Denmark (the home country) to the physical shop, I got a new SIM card. They said they had seen similar issues before specifically with Sweden and that this was usually the solution.
Thanks! It could very well be related - except I use the “Three” network (the same as Hallon), but I cannot get it to work. I will let Three support know of this thread. Hopefully that could change things.
What is worse is that I bought my FP6 through a Swedish shop a month ago. If they sold me something that cannot work in Sweden then I’m asking for my money back. What a pity, I really like my FP
