I have just sat down rapidly on my FP6 in the wrong angle. It is now visibly bent, and the “main frame” is cracked on both sides. The screen (also bent) has lost parts of its sensitivity. It is still usable, but it is less sensitive, e.g. swiping barely works any longer.
I assume that the problem will get worse, and I presume I would need a new screen as replacement. I wonder whether there is any way to tell whether there are more problems ahead.
I’m afraid you will not be able to fix this on your own – it will take a Support request and diagnosis by Fairphone’s repair contractor in France. Fairphone Support chat hours have recently been expanded to also include an afternoon slot (14-16 h Amsterdam time, see bottom half of the page).
Thank you. I will send a request and photos to Fairphone. The screen operability is deterioating quickly - last night it was sporadic problems with swiping, now it barely reacts to touch.
I ordered a new screen already and wonder whether this would be enough, or whether I would need to send in the phone for midframe repair (or more). I know it is unlikely anyone can tell from the photos.
Bear in mind you should be able to connect a regular USB (computer) mouse to your device – this can help with rescuing data (to an SDXC card or via Wi-Fi) then.
Good to know, thank you. The fairphone.com repair portal does not work for me which is a bit frustrating. Wonder whether other people have the same issue. I ordered a new screen, not sure how to request a repair.
That is interesting as two weeks ago my FP5 was sent for repair from Poland to France…
But I vaguely recall that the refurbishment process for FP5s in the past was done in Poland…unfortunately with all the websites changes I can only rely on my memory here…
Could you try a different browser/device?
Are you logged in? Do you have an account with the webshop/support (I am not sure which one I am actually using for repairs as I used the same email for both)? Have you purchased your device directly from the Fairphone webshop?
