Backing up phone to SD card

As my USB port doesn’t work for data transfer even after replacing the connector, it seems I have to send away my phone to be fixed. For that I need to do a restore to factory settings. I really don’t want to send all my data to Google, so I would like to backup everything to the SD card. Is there any way to do it on Android 15?

You can use Bluetooth or WiFi to copy your data, with MyPhoneExplorer for example .

So by installing some third-party software that might also leak the data elsewhere?

As any app, already installed on your phone too.
But why should a tool, programmed to sync your data locally ‚leak‘ your data?

I don’t have anything called “MyPhoneExplorer” installed on my phone. As to why leak data, date is worth money. A lot of apps make their money by selling your data.

Ok, then go help yourself. I only gave an advice.

I appreciate the advice. Apologies for trying to explain why I am not too happy about installing a third-party application that allows access to my phone data from a PC. What I am looking for is simply to back up to the SD card that is on the phone. Android used to be able to do that.

If you don’t want any comfortable app to help you, you can simply manually copy files to the SD card with the included Files app or any other file explorer app.

MyPhoneExplorer is a great and slim free App, though, that’s been a great asset to backup and synch phone data Google free for years. So, why not at least take a look at it?

Thanks - not sure manually copying gets all the application data saved, but I am going to try.

As to MyPhoneExplorer, I might have to have a look - problem is that it is very hard to verify that apps that gain access to all my apps and files don’t leak information somewhere.

Which OS are you using?

Android 15, so I guess Google has most of my data anyway…

Application data is never saved. if you don’t use apps with root access like Titanium Backup or Neo Backup.
But as you are already hesitating to install an app, that syncs your data only locally, I guess apps that require root are way to dangerous.

Indeed. Didn’t Android use to be able to do a local backup to the SD card?

I do not know which type of data information do you want to copy though. Anyway, Android neither Murena has inside their systems a specific set of tools to storage your personal information as such. What I think you want to really say, I guess, it’s your worries about personal cookies, trackers and fundamental permission needed from some specific apps which need access to some directories in the fyle system of Android, E/OS ,etc…

But, if you want to use your SD card for copying all your ‘data’, I think there are some tools in directory to do that , and also your device’s native file manager has this availability

What I want to do is a similar backup as the Android “back up to cloud” does (so I can restore everything after a factory reset), but to the SD card instead of Google’s servers.

your device’s native file manager has this availability

Great - but call me clueless, as I can’t find that option.

What you want to achieve is not possible as explained above. It would require root and an App. And when your bootloader isnt already unlocked it would force a factory reset

I understood a backup from his personal information as images, files, copies from app games and so on, you can do that.

But, if what you want to do is a backup of the OS, of course, you cannot.

Indeed, not concerned about the OS, but about settings, contacts and app data such as Signal conversations (I don’t do games).
