Hi, my FP5 backs up in the cloud, Google One.
I’d like to also back up on a disk that’s offline.
How can I do that?
Thanks,
Jelle
Previously (before i buy FP5) i use “Titanium Backup”, but latest release is from 2019 and also i read several times is problem with restore on Android >=12…
So now i use “Swift Backup”, don’t try yet restore whole backup after factory reset, only sometime restore backup for some app and this without problem…
Not sure if this would be of interest but I use syncthing to sync my photos with my devices.
I miss, in Swift Backup is backed up to card, but can be simultaneously (or latter) backup saved also on some of cloud storage (ex. google disk, or own, i use own nextcloud)
I use Neo Backup for at least 5 years now to backup apps, works great (needs root-access but can backup tons of stuff).
To sync data to a USB Drive (or anywhere really) I can recommend Folder Sync, it’s really powerful & advanced. Also I contacted the devs once and they responded quickly to my bug report (which is rare in the proprietary Android-World).
Thanks, how can I do root access?
Magisk is the most common choice for rooting Android devices. But be aware that:
- Some apps will refuse to work, mainly banking apps, because with root access you have the power to access secured parts of your system.
- After an android update, you need to install magisk to “the other slot” before you restart the phone. It is not complicated, the MagiskApp will do that for you, you just have to trigger it manually after the update is finished.
If you’re fine with this, the guide I linked above will do the trick. It is a bit complicated but you only need to do it once. I recommend reading everything before you start. If done correctly, apps will ask for root access if needed and you can decide if you wanna grant it.
Unlocking the bootloader wipes all data on the phone so be careful with it.
I have no idea what rooting is, nor what unlocking a bootloader is, so I guess there is no easy way to backup my phone to a hard disk
Try myphoneexplorer. It is really handy and is free and configurable.
Just take a cable connect to your PC and transfer important data?
No, I’d like to backup the system, apps etc.
Thanks, that looks good!
Good question. I am old school, and prefer keeping my data on my person, and if I was to do a backup, I would do a back on my external Hard drive.
Using someone else’s computer (THE CLOUD) is never a safe option.
Go into your settings (choose Backup) , plug in a USB type C external drive and do a manual backup.
I hope this helps you.
You dont use FPOS but another OS so this doesnt work for the OP
Oh yes, sorry I should have mentioned that.
I use Lineage OS. Info about FP5 | LineageOS Wiki
It is far better than Goople, that uses so many system resources in the background, that it makes the phone a wonderful surveillance device in your pocket.
If anyone still needs Google Apps or apps that require the Play Services, there is always Mind the Gapps. https://mindthegapps.com/
With Lineage OS, and Mind the Gapps, you can have a better phone, without all the Goople Bloat, and useless surveillance.
And with that, you can back up your phone offline, for your personal needs, without the Cloud…
That does not make much sense to me, as MindTheGapps is “all the Google Bloat”. And LOS is not privacy focused thus even without GApps installed, calling a lot home to Google.
However its going off-topic here, there are other topics discussing this in detail
If you say so…
Maybe we can chat here.
