Does the FP1U have capability of using Augmented reality? If yes, does one need to do anything to enable it?

Afaik all you need for AR is a camera, GPs and probably some sensors (acceleration, tilt, …).
The FP1 has all that, but it might not work great as GPS is not known to work perfectly on the FP1. The #gpsguide might help though.

PS: Oh and of course the AR app you want to use needs to work on FP1’s Android 4.2.2/4.4.alpha.

You could test the Layar app and see if it is working. It is proprietary software though.
