In the widget overview you open Google and there is the widget, called At a Glance.
Thank you!
Just checked, is it a Google Assistant?
This is how it looks for me, kinda

It’s the one that starts with the word “Pora” in your screenshot ![]()
I’m having the same issue. I see in the list of issues this is marked as fixable with a workaround, can anyone tell me what that is? I want to remove the useless search bar and have the real “At a glance instead”
The workaround is to put the widget on your homescreen yourself. It’s not a great solution, I agree.
A reply from FP support:
The ‘At a Glance’ issue is still being investigated.
Is there any progress on this? I still have a big gray bar that I can’t remove and doesn’t display anything on my FP5
I think they may fix it in Android 14. But that’s a big guess. This issue is quite old.
Thanks for this insight. To me it seems pretty embarrassing that FP doesn’t fix this obvious bug on the homescreen for so long, first thing you see really.
Other than that I am enjoying the FP5 though, I don’t want to only complain
I love that “bug” because I dont see any search bar as I dont use the at a glance widget and have the google app deactivated
But why would you want to see a bar then? If only I could just remove it and replace it with something else that would be great already
As said above already
It feels like you discredit this issue simply because you don’t experience it. It is not useful input.
Besides, disabling the Google app simply breaks the widget, but doesn’t make it go away.
Well my search bar is gone and thats a fact and that was what @NielsA was looking for and what I responded to. And when my opinion is: I hope this bug will never be fixed as is it would bring back the empty search bar for me, you have to stand a different opinion, even if you dont like it. Fixing the widget will not make the search bar disappear it will just be put to the bottom and could only be removed by using a different launcher.
yeah I ok I figured that, but that is a rather rough solution… but I might go with that after all. Still, the native launcher should not have this broken UX for so long.
Thats my homescreen with the stock launcher. My understanding is, the date is not part of the At a glance widget (might be wrong here).
So there must be a way if you want to check (maybe in a different topic
Could you long press that date and check if a menu will show up? If it is the menu with Preferences, then it most likely is the At a Glance widget.
Like here?
So no I dont see that.
I neither see anything like the at a glance widget, so therefore I assume I have disabled both or tied it to the date what I dont mind, maybe because I have no Google Account added at all or because I disabled many Google Apps/functions
Use the At a Glance widget on Android devices
Important: To learn how to manage widgets on your device, check with your device manufacturer.
On most Android devices, you can install the At a Glance widget on your home screen.
To add the At a Glance widget:
- On your home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
- Tap Widgets
.
- Scroll to Google.
- Touch and hold the At a Glance widget.
- Drag the widget to where you want to place it.
To remove the At a Glance widget:
- Touch and hold the At a Glance widget.
- Drag the widget up to Remove
.
Tip: On select Android devices, you’ll find At a Glance on the lock screen.
So overall after reading a bit to my understanding “at a glance” is a widget and who want it on non Pixel phones can add it as a widget. I dont think it must be build-in, in non Pixel Launcher, so non Pixel phones.
There still might be some hicc-up with the searchbar on Fairphones, I dont know, as FP isnt saying anything to that since the at a glance widget is available on the FP4.
