App Lounge shows "account not available"

Hi all,
if got a new FP6 with murena e/os and I’m inexperienced.
Of course the first step is download all needed apps. And here I’m struggeling. Loung App shows me “account not available, referesh to get new anonymus account” But refreshing doesn’t work, an restart of the device as well.
Does anybody know how to fix it?
Thanks a lot!

Hi and welcome to the Fairphone community forum

Your question is about Murena’s App Lounge so best to have a look in the Murena community forum that’s all about /e/OS that you’re using on your phone.

In two words, the problem arises from App Lounge trying to access the Google Play store with an “anonymous” account. Naturally Google doesn’t like you not using your personal profile.
If you want to install apps from there, personally I recommend you create an account with Google and use it exclusively for that purpose. You can then use that account in conjunction with App Lounge.

Isn’t there the option to just “Ignore”? (I’m trying to recall what it looked like when I last ran into this problem which is quite a while ago)

My own experience (on an FP3 that I switched to /e/OS in 2021 and still use every day) is that – apart from a temporary outage several months ago – I have been able to install everything I wanted via the App Lounge without ever creating an account. Then again, I rarely install new apps.

Wouldn’t the same problem apply to updates?
In the past I’ve tried “ignore” but the app list never gets refreshed. If I sign in, everything works.

I mainly meant to illustrate I might just have insufficient “case numbers”.

The /e/ forum indeed suggests the problem has come up more frequently this week. (On the other hand, I did update two apps in the App Lounge just yesterday, even just on mobile data and on the bus  )

UPDATE: Can confirm the issue over here right now.

There is undoubtedly an element of “luck”, if I may use the word …
The advantage of an account is just to remove that element, naturally at the expense of anonymity to a certain degree.

Hi,

I can confirm I do have same issues like you (FP6 e/os).

If app lounge anonymous account is not working you have several options what to do next.

  1. Get Google account for installing apps
  2. Wait couple of days until its fixed
  3. Get F-Droid or Aurora store

In some cases I was not able to install apps from App Lounge and I’m using F-Droid and now when App Lounge is not working for me I have Aurora Store.

F-droid doesn’t provide access to Play store.

At present, Aurora is working fine in anon mode, but there have been times when it was simpler to use App Lounge.

Probably best to have all three.

You might want to try again now. I have been able to look up and install two apps in the last 1-2 hours (without much hassle).

Thanks a lot for the great support from all of you! :star_struck:
I got around this issue with creating a new google account, of course this is what I’d like to avoid. Aurora is now already downloaded. Now I’m really happy that the FP is running.

I can confirm it works now. Installed couple of apps minutes ago.

If you don’t mind, Aurora allows normal logins with Google-Accounts, this would circumvent the issue permanently. Not sure how it goes with App Lounge (it was the first thing I got rid of after installing /e/OS - I’m not a fan)

In the end I had to use an old Google account again, but that worked. Aurora wasn’t available to me at the time.
