That is frankly weird, but I believe you. “Torch mode” as in “on permanently using Flash control in the Camera app”.

I have successfully reproduced that.

Same here. Nothing helps(
Yes, This is a massive issue for me too. If I select the x2 Zoom (in any photo mode) and take a picture what contains text (like a label or hand written note) the taken picture will be a 50% crop. It drives me mad and has slowed down my work flow 100%. I take around 30-50 images a day of barcodes and model numbers for work. I have to retake a lot of images.
The last two firmware updates has not solved the issue. I now manually set the zoom to 1.9x as a work around. It also crops the image using the 3x and 6x zoom as well. It’s not every time, but happens all to often. I can’t believe this issue has not been sorted out. It first happened 4 months ago.
I have also tried using the Pro mode with RAW and different aspect ratio’s, also in JPEG. It still happens
Please discuss this in a seperate topic thats off-topuc here.

I am in utter disbelief that this issue wasn’t fixed with the latest update. What a mess!
I never use flashlight so thats most likely not the real root cause or there are different. I still think its AI
No, AI is probably not the reason, since my 2x zoom photos get cropped often too, and I’ve turned off that AI stuff.
Unfortunately the bug may include not respecting your settings.
Also hitting this, it’s extremely consistent when pressing the button for 2x zoom, as well as pinch-zooming to 2x or beyond. Tried clearing camera storage and cache. For me, turning on flash fixes the cropping.

Interesting, so the exact opposite of
but tobefair was maybe turning the flash on before zooming 2x.
I tried flash settings, AI settings, both sometimes work, but Pro mode seems to be the only consistent way to use 2x without cropping, for me.
I also have this issue since android 15 to 16 update. Taking picture using camera 2x, the image ended up cropped further from the 2x image, essentially I got 4x image.
Quite a bummer that this 2x camera problem is not solved yet. I used 2x quite often to avoid distortion, but now I can’t use 2x reliably because it keep cropping further.
It seems like not many people have this bug. I read one thread talking about this, but not so many replies.
I have that one too, since the previous update. Or maybe I was not trying to take an x2 picture before. I opened a customer case. I hope everyone who has it does open a case too
Insane that this still isn’t fixed. At this point I’m just waiting for the Pixel 11 and then I’m going to end my Fairphone journey after just one year (which is way less than I had any previous phone, even much cheaper ones).
I mean, I agree and the amount of bugs recently really is a bummer, but the 2x crop bug is avoidable if you use the ‘pro’ setting with all the additional settings set to auto. A tiny workaround, it works just fine though.
This does indeed seem to work. In Pro mode, you can leave everything on auto and take the 2x pictures again. It’s a great workaround, but I still hope this gets fixed in normal camera mode soon as well.
Never thought about this! Will use this workaround next time.
Same here Fairphone 6 since the Android 16 update the 2x zoom is cropped all the time, in either format. Tried disabling and enabling all sorts of settings to get it back to normal. Sometimes resetting the app and a restart fixes it for 1 or 2 pictures and then it starts doing it again.
I have noticed that the preview image often stiill shows the correct image and after a second or less it sudddenly crops it.
Same here. Ruined a good few of my holiday photos and I didn’t find out until it was too late to retake them. Will try the Pro workaround while waiting for FP to address the issue.
