I had two VPNs set up which I used alternatively on Android 14 on my FP5: VPN to my own FRITZ!Box (IPSec PSK) and the virtual VPN which is set up by the App NetGuard (I got mine from F-Droid, but it’s also on PlayStore).
After upgrade to Android 15 I find:
only NetGuard VPN is left, my other VPN entry is gone
I cannot re-add the VPN entry with the same details, or even with any other details (as IPSec PSK). The “Save” link in the Add menu never activates, I can only cancel out of it
Before trying fundamental steps such as uninstalling NetGuard (and losing settings for the many apps which I updated) or setting up “WireGuard” (which AVM offer as an alternative for VPN to FRITZ!Box) I’d like to know if other have the same issue and maybe resolved it?
There’s also a slight chance IPSec PSK is not supported anymore on Android 15, but I doubt this as it’s still an option when adding VPNs.
I was thrown off track by the text “(not used)”/”(Nicht verwendet)” in the IPSec-ID field which I took to mean that this field was unused and did not need to be filled in when setting up IPSec PSK… no such text in other fields…
As soon as I entered the FRITZ! VPN user id (*) I could save and VPN works again. Now I’m safe again in open WiFi!
(* UPDATE and this is new also compared to AVM’s own description here, where they would only put a generic “Max Mustermann” (not the VPN username) in this IPSec-ID field and only in the next step have the VPN user’s username and password entered when activating the VPN connector later. So this Android 15 change apparently moves the VPN username entry into the VPN setting template which is why such VPN entries made in the previous format disappear?)
