Luck/unluck: my fairphone 5 broke last night (just turn off and doesn’t turn on anymore or take power. with or without the battery put in.)
So went to the store and bought a second fairphone 5 (normally i always have a somewhat modern phone in our household as a backup). And I waited to put the sim. Updated first. So now I have a fairphone 5 on android 14 on Proximus xd
Don’t recommend buying a new phone, but obv as we already knew: technically factory resetting and taking out the sim card would also allow you to switch to android 14… but most (including me) couldn’t be bothered with that obv
sorry yeah, my bad. (obvious diclaimer that doing a factory reset deletes all your data)
But that’s assuming you have a sim from a different provider right?
Do we know if just taking out the sim and rebooting works? I don’t think so. So you’d need a sim from a different provider somehow
UPDATE: Unfortunately, we won’t be able to roll out the Android 14 update for Fairphone 4 users just yet. There are some issues we have run into for which we will need Qualcomm’s support on. This is taking a little longer than we anticipated. As it stands, we don’t see the update rolling through in 2024. Hopefully, we should know more by early next year. We’re really sorry about this unexpected development, and we’re working round the clock to get it out as soon as possible.
I recently bought an FP5 (after the Sudden Death of my FP3).
So far so good, and I’m pretty pleased with it.
However, it is still running Android 13. I got an update notification once, to install the June 5 security update, but that’s it. System > System update > Check for update tells me “Your system is up to date”. Build# FP5.TT4H.A.162.20240609
Does anybody know how to trigger the update manually? I saw the instructions to “flash with fastboot” and manually install Fairphone OS, but that seems like overkill for something that was supposed to happen automatically. I also would like to avoid having to wipe the whole phone and start installation all over.
Hallo,
i stil have version android 13.
via menu : system; system update the fp5 answer ;
system is up to date.
The latest update is from 5 june 2024.
Normally there are regular updates
Restart did’nt help.
How can the updates be forced and happen automatically
@yvmuell , I appreciate you trying to keep order in this chaos and gathering all update related messages into a single thread. I just didn’t expect a thread titled “Here’s what changed” to also contain these no-update issues.
Great that @Thibaultmol managed to get hold of the Proximus helpdesk. I’ll try and see if I can reach anyone at Mobile Vikings (smaller operator/ISP that uses the Proximus infrastructure). The more tickets that are open there, the faster it gets solved, right?
the updates worked fine until june. Also at proximus.
if all proximus users do not receive the update to version 14, then this group will be large, since proximus is almost the largest operator in belgium.
i would be surprised if no one with proximus did not receive this update.
has fairphone already knocked on proximus’ door for this problem
Running into the same problem as the others and contacted Proximus directly.
They stated the update is available since 24/07/'24. They first suggested doing it without a SIM installed. That did not change anything (as expected). They then suggested contacting Fairphone for further support and confirmed that, for them, the issue is with my phone, not with Proximus. I can’t assess the validity of that statement, but this is where my interaction with Proximus stopped.
I must say I’m quite disappointed with how this is going.
It’s good that we’re keeping some pressure on both the Fairphone and Proximus helpdesks until they stop passing each other the hot potato.
Updates from my side:
Mobile Vikings did not reply yet whatsoever.
Fairphone gave me the standard reply (“Nice to e-meet you :)”) . I’ve replied, insisting politely on getting some actual clarification and a timeline on when they think the “tests” should be done.
If you ask me, no tests are being done at all and someone at Proximus simply forgot to flip a switch somewhere before marking this issue as fixed.
I cannot be too specific, but essentially there is a volatile issue that is observed on Proximus network with Android 14.
At this stage, we do not know yet whether it is a network or device issue. We are working together with the carrier to solve the situation.
I hope we can release it soon also for Proximus users, sorry for the long wait.
