After installing Android 13, bootloop

Hello there,

//Why I reinstalled Android
After several problems with my fairphone (GPS unresponsive, then update to /e/OS 1.20, then almost every app crashing (suspected problem with android webview)), I decided to reinstall OS and get a fresh start for my FP3. I chose to install Android because I had several issues with /e/OS before which I never managed to fix in a 4 years time.

//What I did
So I followed this procedure (https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-Manually-install-Android-OS-on-your-Fairphone), on a Windows 10 computer, and after a couple hours I managed to unlock the bootloader, and install this version ( FP3-6.A.035.2-gms-691ff58c-user-fastbootimage.zip).

//Symptoms
After the end of the script (which was OK, no errors during execution), my FP3 is booting over and over again. It is stuck on the screen with 4 blue dots spinning, for a couple of minutes, then rebooting, displaying warning message about bootloader being unlocked (The boot loader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. Any data…). And looping.

//What I might have done wrong
After reading the procedure again, I realised I did not remove my SIM card during installation, but I doubt this is an issue. Do you have any idea how I could fix this?

Since you are coming from a different OS, this process requires a data wipe. I am assuming the script might not have initiated a data wipe which is most likely the reason for bootloop.

All you have to do is:

  • Power off the device(by pulling out and re-inserting the battery?)
  • Press Vol Up + Power button to go into recovery mode
  • If you get “No command” screen then press same combination together to enter into the recovery mode
  • Using Vol Down key, navigate to Wipe data and confirm with power button.

Finally reboot to system and this should boot successfully. Hope this helps you.

Thanks.

Well, thank you for your response. I “succesfully” had the “no command” screen, then I had some troubles entering in recovery mode. Finally, this did the trick : (from another topic)

Being on the “no command” screen and then holding down the power button for 3-5 seconds and then press and release the Volume up button worked for me

Data wipe, then reboot.

After 2 min of blue dots spinning, my FP3 finally booted!
Thank you so much! :muscle:
