Add a notification LED to Fairphone 5: How feasible?

Hi all,

I have bought a Fairphone 5 last year and haven’t been able to move to it until now. I tested the basic functions, but just now realised that, hey, disappearing notification LEDs have apparently been a trend lately and Fairphone decided to follow that trend, for whatever reason.

Combined with the unfortunate active display issues of the Fairphone 5 (which I don’t use anyway), this has become a bit of a problem for me, since I also can’t have my phone make ringing noises constantly (especially in the office). So it’s basically just a dead brick now or I have to manually turn on the display and waste battery to see if anything happened.

This lead me to an idea: Since there are notification light settings in the system, is there a way to actually install a notification LED on the board and interact with it somehow? Even just a single color one would work for me.

Since I have already removed the front camera that I never use, I could use that space for a small bulb LED or even an SMD. Maybe there is also a way to install one at the ambient light sensor opening.

Would someone with more understanding of the board electronics be willing to help me with such a modification (if at all possible)?
