24h global pin for local meetups

Tags: #<Tag:0x00007f05e2c20710>

Hey everybody,

I’m suggesting a 24 hours global pin for local meetups and events (basis would be the agenda). I’m currently testing with the Austrian Fairphoners event today.

Best, Stefan

Fully agree … we’re doing that for quite a while now over in the FB group. It doesn’t seem to help much there though :stuck_out_tongue:

Could you extend it to maybe a week or so? 24 hours is a bit knapp.

Good that @paulakreuzer is reviving this :+1:

Question: When does a global pin set to expire on 27 August expire exactly? At the beginning of that day (27 August, 0:00) or at the end (27 August, 24:00)? I set the Munich pin to 28 August to escape that uncertainty, so I will (or you can) lift it tonight.

You did it correctly. :+1:

Good to know, would have thought otherwise!

What about the twin event day next week (thursday 6th)? Can we pin two topics simultaneously?

I believe up to three topics can be pinned globally. I don’t know which two are currently though.

Welcome + Munich are. I logged out to see.

Private window/tab works too.

Friendly reminder for @Chris_R @Ingo @schmulschubiak @amber @mbyr @quermitdenker @friek @merci @Paule @hnms that you are entitled to have any of your upcoming Fairphone meetups pinned 24 hours prior. Do not hesitate to remind any us who commented before in this topic or anyone else with superpowers should we forget to do so (if you cannot do it yourself anyway).

Why is this only 24 hours? Is it really worth to have a local meetup topic to be pinned only on the same day but not lets say for a week, as @Friek has already suggested a few messages before this one?

With the large number of meetups we sometimes have it wouldn’t be possible (3 global pins is max).
Also I believe the main reason for pinning on the day of the meetup is not to promote it so more people will come, but so the people who want to come can quickly check the forum e.g if they are on the way to the forum meetup and forgot where it is exactly.

I think we should use pins economically (i.e. not too frequently). Otherwise forum users would easily get used to permanently see them and not really notice new pins anymore.

Meetup hosts can easily bring their meetup posts back to the top of the forum every now and then on their own (and I recommend that they do so).

I would stick to the 24 hour time span. A final reminder is the main impact the pin should give in my eyes.

Maybe I’m stupid or blind, but I don’t see how to globally pin or unpin a topic.

Ah, and they get automatically unpinned if a duration was given? I was looking to unpin the HH topic. But it seems it was done automatically. Confusion resolved
