What works nowadays 2025 on CalyxOS on the Fairphone 5 and what Not?

Hi Friends,

after the FP3+ I’m now a lucky user of a Fairphone 5,
but I’m also not happy with Google-Rom.

On the FP3+ I have used iodé…
but this time I would try to use CalyxOS…

I have searched the internet but haven’t found
an info about the actual status of the rom.

Could someone provide me a link about
or does someone know what works and what not
or where are the problems?

Things I know won’t work (someone correct me if I am wrong:

  • Google Pay (and/or generally paying with the phone? I never use that anyway)
  • The Fairphone camera app (there is an open issue for it, but no idea if/when it will work. There is also a thread in this forum somewhere)
  • apparently Pokemon Go (have never tried it)

For me all banking apps etc. work just fine. I can’t really tell a difference between using Calyx and the Stock image. (I already used f-droid and aurora before switching the OS!) I have basically everything enabled in microG though.

There always is the danger of Google changing something about their OS - verification System that then needs to be implemented in microG, which can take a while. And I guess there is a chance that at one point they will change something that can’t be “mocked”. So far it’s fine though.

thanks for this reply, sounds not bad to me…so I think I will give it a try next days, hope that it is easy as on the other phones where I’ve installed custom roms…I will write back the next days
