I think it’s rare to find a charger with a foldable EU plug, as most products I’ve seen have US folding plugs, so this is why I wanted to share. The product page also boasts a repairable design with a screw-opening body, though I’m not sure how far that goes.
They also sell handmade USB-C cables which come out to 25 eur for the shortest 0.25m variant. You be the judge if it’s worth it for you, but I like the aspect of moving the production from overseas to EU, where you don’t have to worry about the working conditions as much.
For those not aware: recable is run by the same person that founded* Vireo.de – Fairphone sellers since day 1
Also seems that Vireo has in fact moved from Sachsen-Anhalt to Dortmund. recable apparently remains in Merseburg (former Vireo seat).
I’ve found this charger already before they sold it and was close to buying it as our household still doesn’t have any quick charger. However I have two concerns here: The foldable design looks tempting, but I could imagine that it has its difficulties in trains where the sockets are between the seats (like some German ICE trains). The second issue that I see is with the “repairable design”: I can open the housing - and what’s next? I know that most chargers don’t even allow that, but I’d expect to find a rather integrated design just like in any other charger. There are no pictures or other indications that would tell anything else - unfortunately! Does anyone have that charger and could check what’s inside?
My wife has one of their cables. While we really like the optics, we had some charging issues with it already. I took apart both ends of the cable (which is relatively easy, so that’s well made), however we couldn’t completely resolve the issue, it remained somehow randomly. As the issue popped up first during the warranty period, ReCable provided new pieces of shrink hose for free.
I definitely like their ideas, so that’s worth to be supported, but unfortunately they are not perfect, either.
