Just to add the App is Open Source and available via F-Droid as well
you’re a lifesaver, thank you for this app.
I tried your app, and I like it, but it does not solve my problem: I find the 15 volume levels too coarse - I repeatedly think: “This is not loud enough” - press volume up once - then: “Oh, this is too loud”.
Would you consider adding to your app a feature that allows more fine-grained volume control also above the minimum?
And btw.: Thanks a lot for sharing this app in the first place!
Thanks for trying it and for saying it plainly. I’m the developer. You are right: above the line the dial sets the phone’s own volume steps, it does not add steps between them. The extra steps exist only below the minimum. You are not the first to ask for finer steps across the whole range. I am not promising it, but it would help to know where the jumps bother you most: everywhere, or mainly in the lower third of the range?
Actually, it depends a lot on the device. With my headphones, I am usually in the upper 2/3rds, and the problem is mild (meaning: I still would love more steps, but I get along), while with my bluetooth speaker I am usually in the lower third, and the problem can be considerably annoying. So, ideally I’d have better control across the whole range, but if I had to choose, the lower third would be more relevant.
Thanks for considering the change!
Btw.: The icing on the cake would be if your overlay could be configured to vanish after a while, and re-appear if I press a volume button.
Thanks, that is exactly the detail I needed. It is written down, together with your idea of the overlay stepping aside and coming back on a volume key. No promise on either.
One thing that may help today with the Bluetooth speaker, with no app at all: in Developer options, turn on “Disable absolute volume” and reconnect the speaker. The phone and the speaker then keep separate volumes. If the speaker has its own volume buttons, set it low there and use the phone’s fifteen steps on top: each step is then a smaller jump, which is what you are missing in the lower third.
Thanks for considering my idea, and of course I do not expect any promises!
I tried the absolute volume-thing, and for my Bluetooth speaker (Marshall Middleton II) I now have wonderfully fine-stepped 30 levels, which sounds not much more than the 15 from Android, but their spacing seems to be done more clever, and I’m totally happy with that. But now my headphones (Airpods Pro) are too silent even at max. Volume… sigh
I never liked Bluetooth… It’s not a standard, it is pure chaos!
