Black magici’s camera can be used with iPhone 16 and equivalent Samsung Android smartphones and is available for other phones if the manufacturer asks. When will this be available for the Fairphone 5 and 6 please. Your phone’s long life and repairability means that many more persons film makers and companies would use them instead of buying Iphones etc.!
As this is a user forum, you should open a service ticket with your feature request at support.fairphone.com.
I just tested the BMD Camera App…..works nicely on my FP6 despite being unsupported by BMD.
The only issue so far is the app’s stabilizer function that can’t be enabled…strange, especially since Google camera has a 2 level stabilizer working fine on the FP6.
I posted this on BMD’s forum, but I doubt they would look at it unless Fairphone asks for it.
Considering the FP market share and the probably low number of FP6 users potentially interested by this app (real video enthusiasts will use some high-end smartphone with better camera), I doubt this will happen anytime soon….
I wanted to use the BM camera on my FP5, as I do all my vids using BM Resolve, but BM say no, Resolve accepts FP Vids. I was hoping that the FP6 would and would like to get FP to ask BM. The iPhone BM camera was used on the recent Moon shot, just think of the publicity if it had been an FP!!!
Despite several updates (on the Blackmagic side), this very nice video camera app still doesn’t allow stabilizing shots on the FP6 ![]()
On the BMD forum, it has been unofficially responded that the FP isn’t supported for the app, and that the work would have to be done on the FP side (API,…).
Any hope some day ?
Which Gcam port are you using? I can’t seem to make optical image stabilization work on Gcam on my FP6. But I’m on e/OS, not sure if that makes any difference though?
Ok so how do we as FP to get the BM camera up and running properly. On the plus side think how an FP would appeal to users of BM camera over say iPhones and Samsung equivalent. !!
I’m using the FP stock Gcam app
To me it looks like the BM camera app is a high-end specialized tool designed for video/cimena pros using high-end Samsung or iPhone gear anyway, with sensor & optics several levels above the FP, don’t you think ? My call is rather a candid wish…
I have enquired of FP and been told that the FP5 and 6 are not capable of having BM and they are not really planning to do so.
May have to think about Samson or IPhone.
Am using Resolve on both my canon LOG3 and my FP5 rec 709 with no problems thus far, other than trying to learn Resolve with the help of Casey Faris’ GroundControl and a bod call ChatGTP.

Tim
How did you manage to install BM camera on your FP5?
For me installing via AppLounge always fails…
Hi my inquires with FP told me that the Fp 6 could install it but would not work properly as FP phone are Not designed for BM. So you have to revert to iPhone 17 and above or Samsons equivalent. Bm can not help as it is. Up to Fp.
It is a sort of back to the drawing board time and a financial delema.
