This T-Mobile campaign is a shame

Hey all!

In these days the following commercial is airing in Austrian television: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL5ZkPsVvps

It advertises that you get a new phone already after 1 year, and not after 2. Besides that even 2 years is not very long in the lifetime of a phone, 1 year is just a shame.

I am very glad that my operator is not jumping onto this train, but I fear that the other providers sooner or later will advertise the same “crime”. I do think that Fairphone should cooperate with national mobile network providers, but not in such a case. They shouldn’t ever work together with T-Mobile/Deutsche Telekom. Their behaviour sickens me.

What do you think about all this?

Worried greetings, Stefan

Norwegian operator Telenor (also in the other Scandinavian countries and some others, e.g Hungary) launched this in July :frowning:

No doubt that we will see others follow suit.

I think most telco’s offer new phones with a 1 year contract, you just pay a little more for 'em compared to when you take a 2 year contract.

The worst thing about this whole “get a new phone every 2 years” thing is that while the technological advancements made in 2 years are substantial, they are completely wasted on 99% of the phones sold.

Most people still use their phones for calling, text messaging, synching their agenda’s and gaming goes little further than Flappy Bird or Words with Friends. In other words: nothing that requires 2.5GHz octo-core CPU’s.

Same in the USA, my friend was just telling me about AT&T moving in a similar direction
