This forum performs terrible on my Fairphone 6

I don’t know if this is an issue with this particular forum, or with Discourse in general, but the performance on my Fairphone 6 is beyound a horror show. Even typing lags. We’re talking about .5 ms delays for inputting a single character.. Imagine the frustation to type even a single short reply.

And just browsing the forum is a lag fest. Which is sort of ironic, considering how basic Discourse seems to be. However. It seems to be relying on a lot of bloat like JavaScript.

It should be noted that I don’t have any performance issues with my phone or any website other than this forum.

Is anyone else having the same issues?

Can’t confirm on a Fairphone 3 with /e/OS 3.2-a15-20251025540112-community-FP3 and Fennec 145.0.0 browser.
Feels snappy as usual right now.

I am using the chrome installed app.

Could you @Hund tell us what is your setting? A web browser?

Cant confirm with any FP. On the FP6 I use Vivaldi to access the forum

@yvmuell @Meaghan I’m using IronFox, a successor to the abandoned web browser Mull. It’s basically Firefox with privacy and some hardening features.

I installed Fennec, and it seems to be working a lot better there. The forum still feel a little bit sluggish, but at least not to the point where it’s annoying.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of trying another web browser first.

This change will also affect older versions of other browsers. The minimum Firefox version with support for these features is v128 (July 2024), and the minimum Chrome(ium) version is v119 (Oct 2023).

It’s a good guess, but IronFox is keeping up with Firefox. I assume that there’s something disabled in IronFox that Discourse is relying on.

The downside of a web browser that respects your privacy and is secure, is that the web sometimes doesn’t work for you.
