I noticed there’s a lot of communication after reinstalling the stock ROM and getting preinstalled apps from the network operator. I also seen threads on getting updates later or earlier depending on what sim is inserted into the phone.
Can operator overwrite source of the OS updates? Do I have no option to get OS updates directly from fairphone on the stock ROM if I have a proximus sim inserted?
Providers can’t overwrite the source, as far as I know, the apps are already in the ROM, but will only be activated, if a SIM of the matching provider is detected.
If your provider blocks the update and you are willing to force it, you can use a different SIM card instead or make a manual update, with the files published here:
But there is always a risk, when the update was held back on purpose because of incompatibilities with your provider.
I would like to avoid giving the carrier ability to block security fixes. With posts on this forum it looks like proximus just doesn’t push updates automatically, they fix that shortly after receiving a ticket from customers but it’s silly to have a phone that won’t get updated because of something like this.
There’s no option to disallow carrier settings/apps in the stock rom? I would have to physically swap the sim around?
