Still running Android 13 on my FP5 to keep always on display

Am I the only hold out left? I am refusing to upgrade until the always on display option is added to Android 14.

I don’t know, I’m still using my FP3, but I would not sacrifice security for a small inconvenience while using my phone.

So you’re never upgrading then?

I said it somewhere else already: I switched to CalyxOS for this reason. It has AOD with Android 14. The missing AOD really is way way more annoying to me than just a small inconvenience.
(But that the opinion on this differs a lot between people was already established when the FP3s LED wasn’t working in the beginning  )

Thanks for making me feel better! I admire your commitment to the cause, enough to change OSes over it!

Sadly it looks like it is a lot of effort as I also need Android Auto. Waze automatically loads up every time in my car to remind me of the speed toll cameras set up around the city. Without it I’d probably be paying tolls monthly and constantly watching my speed instead of the road. At least with the prompts I’m only distracted by my speedometer for several hundred meters instead of all the time!

Why can’t you do both? :joy:

+1, if you aren’t able to watch your speedometer from time to time, you should consider giving back your driving license and let the bus driver do it for you  .

Thank you. Fortunately I didn’t need anything that I knew wouldn’t work on CalyxOS. (though I am eagerly waiting for them to get the FP camera app to work).

While I kind of agree that I would assume people with a driving license should be able to watch the speedometer and the road at the same time, maybe there are other solutions for the speed camera problem? I think I remember someone who had a dedicated little device in the car that gave off an alarm around speed cameras (I have no idea how and how well they work though or if and where they are legal)

Seriously, the speed cameras may be a problem for @Kmantle. But for everyone around him, the problem is too fast driving in general, not only at the speed cameras, and so everyone would be better off if either something warns him of too fast driving in general or if nothing warns him at all, so that speed cameras plus executive can do their job…

I absolutely agree.
I was trying to keep the advice on this forum to solutions for his phone related problems.

@all how someone is driving is not our buisiness and not the topic here, so please stop this discussion here.

But aren’t the latest security fixes only released for the latest major versions? If thats the case, maybe you should upgrade just for security reasons.

Thanks for all the feedback! Seems I am the last holdout.

I really just need a clock in the bedroom with an AOD that is as dim as a phone. I don’t want to sleep with a “nightlight” and AOD is the perfect brightness.

Given that no one cares about AOD, maybe someday they won’t put in the effort to disable it!

Guess I will get around to upgrading and rocking this phone like it’s an iQue 3600 (no AOD, but was an amazing PDA).

I am missing AOD too, and opened a ticket. In august I got following answer from support:
“…I understand your situation. As we had more people who shared your sentiments, we’ve logged this feedback, and we will definitely take this into account for future updates and see if we can reintroduce it. …”

But some month are gone and nothing happend. You should open an own ticket to remind the support about this issue.

Maybe you can use the screensaver (see settings - display) for the clock view at night. It works when you load the smartphone at night.
