Tonight we will start rolling out a new software update for The Fairphone (Gen. 6). This is a staged rollout, so you may not see this update on your phone right away.

Update went well
Update available but failed to download or install
One tiny issue on my side. After restart the phone did not ask about the PIN for the SIM card (only the phone PIN was requested) and there was no network. Locking and unlocking the phone helped.
Using the on/off button to wake the screen and only unlocking the phone when the screen is on does not work when there are notifications. I need to either swipe up, dismiss all notifications, or double click the on/off button for the unlock to work.
Just noticed that this update also updated the kernel version from 6.1.112 to 6.1.118 if I’m not mistaken
Apparently 6.1.112 is not available any more and 6.1.118 is only available until this February so let’s see how long it takes for the next kernel update
I replaced e/OS 3.3 with this version using fastboot and observed a few things:
It is unsafe to lock the bootloader, which is weird because e/OS 3.3 had security patch 2025-12-01 while this version has 2025-12-05. I may just misunderstand how the anti-rollback mechanism works, but running fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability returns 0.
Improvement suggestions:
Add the fastboot command to the installation script to notify the user whether it is safe to lock the bootloader.
Provide this information when attempting to re-lock the bootloader.
The touch screen seems less responsive compared to when I was using e/OS.
The battery drain issues I had with the stock ROM (before I had flashed e/OS) have been reduced dramatically.
I forgot to remove the SIM card and android consumed this month’s data in a second
Overall it seems to work well. I haven’t tried attaching my google account to it yet.
