Tonight, August 24, 2026, we started to roll out a new software update for the Fairphone 5. This is a staged roll out, so may not receive it right away.

Update went well
Update available but failed to download or install
Not a big thing, but does anyone else register – after completion of the update – the disappearance of the app icon (I guess in my case it’s Camera) at the screen’s bottom right end?
I had been stuck on the March update for a few months for some reason, but yesterday I got offered this update (2.3 GiB to download!), but everything happened smoothly, no problems so far.
I have a big problem
After this update my fairphone won’t complete the boot process, it stucks after the light green logo on green background appears and disappears on the screen, it stucks when I see the vertical light green line
Then the phone became hot
when I do a long press to hard shutdown the phone it reboots
when I choose “power off” from the fastboot menu it reboots
I have tried several restart (also two battery removal, because after ~10 minutes is become very hot) before investigating in fast mode.
now I see on fastboot screen “BOOTLOADER VERSION - FP5.VT2Y.C.108.20260622”
but retry count stucks on 7
please help
edit: other details from fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) current-slot:a
(bootloader) has-slot:boot:yes
(bootloader) slot-retry-count:b:0
(bootloader) slot-unbootable:b:yes
(bootloader) slot-successful:b:no
(bootloader) slot-retry-count:a:7
(bootloader) slot-unbootable:a:no
(bootloader) slot-successful:a:yes
fastboot, fastbootd and the recovery logs told me: slot a contains the previous version (FP5.VT2Y.C.108.20260622), with security-patch-level:2026-07-05
recovery logs report this message: W:DM_DEV_STATUS failed for system_a: No such device or address but is not relevant, but also happen on a good fairphone booting normally, so I’ve check the recovery log on a working fairphone without find any relevant difference
