Thanks for your post/announcement. I was surprised that this update came so early and I really appreciate FP’s effort here.
The update was smooth and did not produce any problems.
I updated my FP4 the next day this update appeared. It has improved battery life a bit. I use dual sim with 1st SIM on 3G for calls only and 2nd one on 4G. (5G still eats battery like mad, it’s normal). No issues, since 1st upgrade to A15 I am not mad at my FP4 anymore.
After switching my SIM from Telekom to Vodafone tonight, the update arrived immediately and installed without any problems so far. My issues concerning restart / missing USB-connection (see Software Update: FP4.QREL.15.16.1.20260220155828 📲 - #108 by KleinerAdmin) seem to have gone at a first glance. Hope that will persist.
Thanks for the update. I have a question about manual installs: The support page about the process recently stopped getting updated about FP4 images. It’s missing the last two versions now. Is this an oversight or won’t that page get updates for FP4 anymore?
This update fixed USB-Data on my phone which was broken since 15.16.1 (May).
However, I’ll still speak this warning to the 0.1% of users who might use the phone like I do:
Do not update your phone while it’s in airplane mode and hooked up to Ethernet via USB-C adapter. This has wrecked USB-Data on 2 separate FP4 phones and 2 separate updates (15.15.2 and 15.16.1) now.
I’m not willing to test this on the next update, so I will update while my phone is disconnected from USB.
Update: unfortunately not even 24h later, it’s borked again. USB-Data no longer works
Same here. After a certain amount of up-time, USB-functionality silently drops. Restart helps for a while.
And btw. Restart: as before, after tapping “Restart”, the phone shuts down and nothing happens. I have to long-press the start button to restart my phone.
Restarts don’t fix USB-Data on my FP4 even temporarily.
I have the same issue with Reboot not working, but even a normal Shutdown requires a long press to turn on.
I’m so tired with the unreliable software of the FP4 and as I read around here, other models suffer from similar problems too. My next phone will definitely not be a Fairphone.
And no, I will not open a ticket and get demands to hard-reset my phone or something like that. With A13 almost everything worked fine, since A15 there are many bugs and a sluggish behaviour. The developers at FP only have to read here and do their work!
It would had been nice to get the July security updates (even if it takes some more days), but I have to commend the effort to release those new (-ish) security updates before the end of the 2 months period.
Could it be that Fairphone is getting a grip on their software department?
