I made the same experience. Since the update, I restarted my phone twice. Immediately after the restart, USB connection worked normally, a few hours later it was gone again.
Were you able to restart normally, or did you need to remove the battery?
My USB connection never worked after 15.15.2, not even for a minute.
The first time, I restarted after I had run out of battery. When connecting the charger, there was no indication that charging had initiated. But I could start the phone again without taking out the battery, though it felt like I had to press the power button longer than usual. The second time, I had taken out the battery to have access to SIM and SD card, and afterwards it restarted normal.
In both cases, I connected the Fairphone immediately after the restart to my touchscreen, and both secondary display and using the touchscreen as input device worked. A few hours later, I was back to the same state since the update: Secondary display works, but neither could the touchscreen be used as input device, nor would any other connected USB device work.
It’s a good thing to hear of others who successfully got their phone replaced. I haven’t heard anything new from the support team in almost 3 weeks now. Handling job interviews over the phone on a 10 year old slow tablet with a no longer supported OS version as an emergency replacement device that is unhandy to carry around is not exactly what I call fun. However, if I was buying a temporary replacement phone, that would somehow contradict some of the idea of having a Fairphone in the first place. I hope it does not take too long until the rest of the bricked phones also get replaced.
I got my replacement FP4 today.
Battery was at 0% and it only booted into:
Android Recovery
Fairphone/FP4eea/FP4
11/RKQ1.210503.001/FP3S
Which asked me to do a factory reset, after which it loaded into Android 11, which updated to 13 and then again to 15.
It’s now sitting at FP4.SREL.15.4.4 and USB works as intended, even after reboot.
I am also happily able to report that things have finally been sorted out. I got a new replacement FP4 and the return shipping label to send the broken one back. The new one is up and running perfectly, the old one is on its way back to Fairphone. It seems there was a problem with the ticket system, which is now sorted out. Thank you to the Fairphone support. That was some adventure, but at last it worked out.
