Simple hardware workaround for accidental screenshots on FP6

I kept triggering accidental screenshots on my Fairphone 6 because it’s very easy to press the power and volume-down buttons at the same time when locking the phone.

Since I never use the volume buttons anyway, I tried a simple mechanical workaround:
I removed the volume-down button insert from the case (it can be pushed out quite easily).

This reduces the pressure transfer to the actual volume-down button and makes it much harder to trigger unintentionally. Since doing this, I haven’t had a single accidental screenshot.

Maybe this helps others who have the same issue and don’t rely much on the volume buttons.

It might be easier in this case to just deactivate the screenshot shortcut. Fairphone introduced this option in November:

There is no “Screenshot shortcut” when i’m navigating to “Settings > System > Gestures”

Are you using /e/OS or another Custom ROM? The change in November applied to Fairphone’s own Android OS only, I don’t kow if any of the Custom ROMs for the FP6 have adopted it yet.

I use /e/OS, which i should have mentioned in my post :face_with_peeking_eye:

No problem :slightly_smiling_face: (my own daily driver FP3 runs /e/OS as well). I briefly browsed through the recent releases notes for /e/OS 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 As far as I could see, this option has not made it into /e/OS yet. Perhaps it will still come.

In Settings > System > Buttons there is a toggle on the bottom for Click to partial screenshot. If you enable this, when you do a screenshot by accident it will open the editor, but the image will not be saved automatically.
