Sim card not detected

Dear Fairphone community,
I hope you cloud help me with my issue.
I bought a brand new fairphone 5 one month ago and sometimes it detects my SIM card, sometimes not, and when it is detected (on boot), it cannot reach the Orange network. I opened a Fairphone Troubleshooter request one month ago, but still do not have any updates.

So I have an old SIM card, with an Orange contract, but I tried with 4 different SIM cards, one has less than 1 year old and had the same result. I tried to convert my SIM card into an eSIM but the result is quite the same “network not activated” (and I did it with Orange, so I know the esim should be activated).
The phone has an FP android OS, it can boot and be connected to wifi. I tried the FP tests and the result is an issue with the SIM card.
I went to an Orange store and they just said that the problem comes from the phone (after some tests).
I made all the OS updates, and already tried a factory reset.
I sent all the tests results in my ticket, all the photos needed… I don’t know what to do and my old phone is very very sick. Does anyone have the same problem ? An idea to unlock this ?
thanks a lot,
Aude

From what you describe, I’d agree with them. Try to get hold of the support. Things like that should not happen, but in some rare cases they obviously do happen.

As eSIM didn’t work either this rules out a fault in the SIM tray. Points to an issue with the modem or antenna perhaps.

thanks for your replies, and if it is a problem with the modem, how could I return it, as it never worked ? I guess I have to wait an answer from the support ?

I guess so. This is one reason to not buy from Fairphone directly, which is a shame. Another retailer would likely be able to replace it much faster.
