Security updates

Hi,
I’ve had an FP6 for 8 weeks. I want to move away from US hardware. Everything works great. But now I’m worried about the security of my Android device. The last security updates were on December 5, 2025. So it seems unlikely to me that the current March updates will be installed quickly. But since I have my banking apps on the FP6 (in the confidential profile), I now have to decide:
a) go back to the iPhone with daily security updates (but US) and sell the FP, or
b) stay away from US, but accept security risks. I definitely don’t want that.
c) Use the iPhone only for security-related matters. That’s too impractical for me. Fiddling around with two cell phones is not for me.
How do you deal with this issue?
Best regards,
to everyone

Could just wait a bit with taking a decission till the next update?

Hi. Thanks. Of course i can and will. But in the meantime I feel safer with the iPhone. Security is top priority for me.

Mobil gesendet, kurz und bündig.

If security is a priority, then stop using banking, healt or any other app that might handle sensitive data.

Phones are just not secure ennough, especially if you use things like mobile payment.

Thanks a lot. I’d love to do that. But I wonder what could be the alternative? The banks in Germany are really uncomfortable without mobile banking

Hello @Theon
The update for FP6 with February SPL has just been posted

If you want to get the gist on how FP has been doing with updates so far, you may find this webpage useful, as it lists all the past updates.

FP6 is expected to be supported for three years with montly updates, and afterwards with bi-monthly ones. I believe that was the information available from the start.

After checking all of that, I guess you would need to make a decision whether that is safe enough for you.

Great. Thanks a lot.

@Theon , I think this has been a debate for year. All I want to say, is that you pointed out one important thing … “you feel safer with the iPhone” … that doesn’t mean you are. I can point out 20 cases where iPhone did a poor job at security (e.g. XcodeGhost Malware Infected 100+ Million iOS Users and Apple Said Nothing - The Mac Security Blog ) and another 20 cases where Android is bad at security. Whatever you choose, you will win some and lose some. iPhone “feels” more secured because it’s a closed circle, so you know only what you’re told. Graphene is 100% better than your Google Android, but eOS is most probably comparable. Yes, iPhone probably released the patch a few days earlier, so you were exposed to the risks for a few days more. That doesn’t cancel the fact that this issue is known since December and they only came public with it end of January  so pick your poison, but whatever it will be, you’ll never get 100% assurance either way, so with that you need to make peace. If someone will want to do you harm, they will find a way, at the end of the day … nothing is bulletproof. (saying this with a lot of kindness, because I know what an enemy anxiety is).

Thanks a Lot for your efforts, your detailed comment and the clear message. It’s great you took you the Time for this differentiated comment.

And I See, you’re right: absolute security is a myth, but your points really help me figure out what works best for me. I’ll keep them in mind as I weigh my options. And have a close look to the Mac Security Blog, which I didn’t know until now.

Cheers for the helpful input – much appreciated!
