Security releases on FP3+

Software support roadmap

We guarantee software support on Fairphone 3(+) with security and software upgrades for about 5 years after the first launch date (August 2019), aiming for reaching 7 years with security updates until mid-2026.

We did monthly security updates for about 1,5 years, and then we did switch to bi-monthly security updates* since end of 2020. Furthermore, we will keep the bi-monthly pace until the end of the software support.

that is a bit unusual.
I would ask in the threads under specific software releases to identify other users and their operators networks

There seems to be a new software update for FP3 users launched yesterday, anyone got that? 6.A.035.2 Release date: 3 June 2025 Android version: 13 Security patch level: May 2025 Changes: A number of Operator fixes.

For Fairphone’s default operating system (now called “Android OS”) @Meaghan already linked to the roadmap.

While Fairphone will not upgrade it to Android 14, alternative operating systems for the the FP3/FP3+ have already upgraded to Android 14 and 15, see

This might allow security updates for 2-3 years more (my estimate based on Android version history - Wikipedia), given you are willing to install one of these.

I’m on Vodafone Germany and the last security update is dated 5. January 2025. So I’m missing two security updates, too.

Past experience with this kind of problem has told me that it takes a lot of effort with little chance of success to try and drill a hole for the updates through Vodafone.

I’m taking this as an incentive to order the not-FP6-but-“Das Fairphone (Gen. 6)”. Guess what I’ll call it

I’ve wasted almost an hour in Vodafone’s hotline. By now, everybody competent enough to know how the over the air updates work will have gone home. I’ll try again on Monday.

I wasted another few hours trying to get the block removed. No dice. I even got so far as to get in touch with my ticket. But the s tagged it “hardware problem”. The nice lady I talked to told me she would get somebody to call me. That never happed.

As I have my FP6 now, I’m relegating the FP3 to a role as backup. Let’s hope the FP6 will get better support from the s at Vodafone.
