This somewhat sounds like what happened to an FP4 I have here and whose display I disconnected and reconnected repeatedly. Eventually, the connector and/or its counterpart on the mainboard was so worn out that the display only shows background light. You might still want to carefully try to connect the display connector anew, paying attention to the iFixit instructions here:
