After updating to the latest version of e/os, I noticed irregular clicks on the screen after one day. I then spent two days looking for the cause. I was still able to watch a video. Ghost clicks often adjusted the volume or brightness. After 15 minutes, the screen went dark and could no longer be operated, but the sound continued to play. I switched off the smartphone. But the screen didn’t come back on. The smartphone still seems to be booting, which can be recognized by the LED, and there are still sounds…
I wanted to know whether it is likely that the smartphone will work again if I install a new display module or whether there could be other causes.
Have a look at the list of Fairphone Angels.
Perhaps there is an Angel in your neighbourhood who has a working Fairphone 3 so that you can test the screen.
Oh thank you, that seems an nice arrangement with these angels, but the next is more than 100km away.
I think I just have to take the risk and buy this display module.
There are no longer all the spare parts available for the device.
Perhaps the device is no longer really supported
The only FP3 module really no longer available at all is the camera. All other modules are still available (at least the “Plus” versions of them). However, you inspired me to check this again, and I noticed that apparently the FP3 speaker is now only available refurbished. For everyone curious about this (I am primarily writing this for others just reading along):
In the shop, it seems to lack specifications as to whether it is a 94 dB (original version) or a 96 dB (the louder FP3+ speaker) one. While I had concerns whether the 94 dB original speaker would be fine with the louder amplifier signal coming from the FP3+ mainboard, Support assured me a year ago or two that there would be no issue with such a combination.
